About this deal

It wasn’t long before it was being published once every second month, housing reprints of earlier stories. Here, again, the contrast with the early Wolfman/Mantlo issues is instructive: Sue is, by and large, useless. I know Byrne wasn’t involved and the story reads fairly okay, but it might have been nice to include it. In this book, children will be explained what viruses are - a more-than ever actual topic, how they move and what behaviours help to limit their spreading. That's why I enjoyed it so much - less serious, more fun, Stan the man Lee hits the spot for good old, action-packed comic book adventures, these are now the good bits to review!

He also wrote the first issues of Mike Mignola's Hellboy series and produced a number of Star Trek comics for IDW Publishing. When Byrne refers to Galactus as a “brother” of Death, I fail to see how defeating Galactus is any different from an attempt to cure cancer.

Presenting for the 1st time ever, issues 1 to 30 of Fantastic Four, collected in a hard back book (weighing in at over 800 glossy pages! This was my first time reading the run, which has received the massive omnibus treatment from Marvel.John Byrne's run on Marvel's First Family is a lot of fun to read, perhaps more fun than the Stan Lee-Jack Kirby run (at least for me anyway). The universe has proved a place more complex than even Galactus dared suspect,” Galactus laments at one point. menaced New York before being soundly outsmarted, after which one last Lee Foreword precedes another cross-pollination: this time guest-starring Nick Fury, lead character in Marvel’s only war comic.

Before we continue discussing the run itself, it’s worth taking a moment to reflect on the collected edition. He’s a character who has none of the real thirst for knowledge that the Fantastic Four have, and thus lives a mundane life – he’s proof that the powers don’t make the hero, and an example of what the Four might have been had they been more boring individuals. Still, it does help explain how Sue becomes pregnant with their second child, which is part of this Omnibus. the creatures suggest, as the adventure does play out remarkably different to the original short story (and its adaptations). it has some pretty unfortunate implications, not least of which the simple fact that the Inhumans didn’t try to teach their former subjects to live independently, but just reintroduced slavery as a means of “protecting” their “lesser evolved” brethren. And, given that the Skrulls are the race we see suffering from Reed’s decision to help Galactus, it’s an interesting point to make – if the Thing doesn’t feel too bad about brutalising them “too much” by virtue of their breed, will the Fantastic Four care too much about the death of their home planet?
