About this deal

By using the Web site, you confirm that you have read, understood, and agreed to be bound by the Terms and Conditions. Overall, I would highly recommend this book to others looking for a light-hearted and enjoyable read. There are several actions that could trigger this block including submitting a certain word or phrase, a SQL command or malformed data. Having watched Clara on Social Media, seen her journey and how hard she has worked to do something she loves, I appreciate how damn naturally funny and clever she is. She is as hilarious on the page as she is in her incredibly popular TikTok sketches, to the extent that editing this book in an open plan office has been a hazard.

  • why a jar of pickled herrings from Waitrose is the ultimate guilty pleasure, nay necessity, for a sleep-deprived parent. I found myself to be laughing out loud on multiple occasions during this book to the point I was getting odd looks from fellow road users when I would be pulled up alongside them at traffic lights and it looked as though I was just sat there crying with laughter on my own in the car!

She is co-writing a comedy series and recently acted in the Sky Original film A Christmas Number One. I had never heard of Clara Batten, but going by the blurb I had a feeling this book would be right up my street so I jumped at the chance.

I loved how a story would start somewhere and end up somewhere completely different in thought and humour. I have never heard of Clara Batten but the synopsis of the book sounded good… that is where it ended.I've followed Clara for some time and hearing the book in her voice with her tone, intonations and emotions made it thoroughly enjoyable.

The good news is, now she’s found (some of) the answers and is sharing her secrets with the rest of us! em>

The good news is, now she’s found (some of) the answers and is sharing her secrets with the rest of us! This book is such a good laugh and if you’re a fan of Clara’s social media, you won’t be disappointed. The publisher said: “In Gin and Phonics, Clara talks candidly about the ups, downs and amusing realities of trying to parent two small people whilst fulfilling her lifelong dream of becoming an actress without losing her bl**dy mind. However, I’m multi-faceted, at least that’s what I tell myself and let’s be honest I was hoping it would be a bit of light relief or pallet cleanser from my usual reading genres! The first thing I said to them was, ‘I absolutely don’t want to do a ’mum book’, banging on about the trials of parenting and needing a drink at the end of the day. It did not disappoint, at parts of this book I was laughing to the point of tears streaming down my face! Of course, I am a mum so my kids are mentioned quite a bit (in fairness, they can be comedy gold) but mainly, Gin and Phonics is a humorous series of vignettes about my increasingly bonkers life with comedic anecdotes from past and present. TikTok sensation Clara Batten has dedicated the last few years to seeking the answer to one of lifes most crucial questions:Is it possible to raise and nurture two small humans without losing your bloody mind? This being said, I did find this book entertaining, and if you are not looking for something too taxing to read I would definitly recommend it.

Clara manages to reach into the truth of life with kids but tells her story with so much laughter, joy and energy.strong>

  • Most importantly, Clara shows us that no matter how much we adore our little treasures, life isn’t just about their A, B and bloody Cs. This book lets you know that, if you don’t take yourself too seriously, if you know who you really are and if you love more than you fear; then life is going to be ok. Most importantly, Clara shows us that no matter how much we adore our little treasures, life isn't just about their A, B and bloody Cs. Most importantly, Clara shows us that no matter how much we adore our little treasures, life isn’t just about their A, B and bloody Cs. It’s a heartwarming book of tales and an honest account of parenting, peppered with lots of Clara’s signature style humour.
