About this deal

Overall though, this *is* a five star review, so I’m going to recommend you read this book – if for no other reason than maybe I’m wrong and there was genuinely a great tale in here that I just didn’t pick up on? But things take an unexpected turn, and they find themselves stranded at a campsite that’s not exactly a summertime paradise. Although Jules had some depth, the main arc of her storyline didn't really make too much sense to me. Off the Deep End by Emily Silver was a swoony-worthy MM sports romance that did delicious good things to my heart. Giancarlo Granda finally reveals the truth about his relationship with Becki Falwell and her husband Jerry Falwell Jr.

Berry’s background as a clinical psychologist shines in this novel with a character so disturbed they spend time in seclusion lockdown at a psychiatric ward. The pacing of this book was okay, and I found Isaac’s parents to be interesting, but everything else felt like a train wreck. I have nothing good to say - the writing wasn’t even worth the ride… I don’t know what is happening but if Lucinda Berry could please just go back to writing like she did in her 5 star books that would be great. I love Lucinda Berry's perspective as a psychologist that she brings to every one of her novels, and that was my favorite part about this one as well. Both narrators created just the right amount of tension and heat between Finn and Wes that made you long for these two to go after their dreams and find their very own HEA together.Because let me be clear up front: There was nothing from a technical/ objective-ish standpoint to hang a star reduction on here. Given that the conclusion was about how Isaac used video games to spread and encourage violence which then bubbled over into real life (btw there were no clues that would be the ending whatsoever, it was just tossed on in there), one of the POVs should've been his. Two families who must deal with the onset of horror, loss, and psychological damage in the embers of this unspeakable incident. Please keep in mind that because we deal mostly in used books, any extra components, such as CDs or access codes, are usually not included. I think if the major points that come across in the last few chapters were brought forward a bit it would have been way better.

Up to the 52% mark this was an average read - I can get behind a slow burn so I was like alright wait for it… I mean Jules really went Off the Deep End so stuff was happening, it was hanging in there… but 53% came and everything changed from dull to crazy crap on a cracker! Not all characters in fiction are going to be likeable and even more so in fiction that explores such realistic life tragedies, especially when written by someone who has intense clinical experience helping others to navigate this trauma. Just one faulty connective in the scheme of things can cause a profound tragedy that just keeps on giving. Off the Deep End could have been a blazing winner for Lucinda Berry if she would have stuck to the initial theme.

Fast-paced and a real page-turner, it became pretty dark as the story progressed, but this made it even more thrilling for me. Off the Deep End looks at the sea's physical character, how it confuses our senses and makes rational thought difficult. Out walking dog, cell phone found on the side of the road, and a perfectly wrapped box of the last clothes he was wearing discovered in a local park - like all the other victims but Amber can't and won't believe it.
