About this deal

Again, as I have mentioned in a prior post, I have not seen the show yet (waiting at the end for binge-watch). We’ve been down this road before with Darth Vader, though –at the moment, LEGO Star Wars is not a theme for taller minifigures. Now if they were blue cat people, we’d be on to something… There were so many ways to write Vader in this and NOT meet with Obi Wan. It lessens the OT's dramatic scenes. Just silly. "

Before that point though, this feels like an unfortunate consequence of where the LEGO Group needs to price particular sets and the gap to where fans’ affordability is. As far as the build goes, I will admit it could have been better, but it is reasonably accurate. I think tan might've been more accurate to the show for the ground, but it was pretty dark in the scene and hard to tell what exactly the environment was like. As it is, an aged and dishevelled Obi-Wan Kenobi is nicely captured in minifigure form in 75334 Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Vader, with two facial expressions that nicely reflect his anxious, uncertain state heading into this meeting with Vader. The detail to his minifigure design is as you would expect, with the hairpiece providing a much-needed update to the character’s appearance too. As usual, Obi-Wan carries a blue lightsaber, including the cloudy lightsaber blade introduced with another Obi-Wan Kenobi minifigure during 2019. You have to remember that the current Lego business model is premised on getting SW fanatic AFOLs (which includes myself) to spend regardless. To that end, they create a combination of false scarcity (sets and GWPs) and puchase incentives (GWPs and double points) to drive sales. That is why you see sets, like the dioramas, sell. Lego provides enough FOMO incentive (positive and negative) to overcome the initial negativity over set value.Joe Versus the Volcano. Yet, there will be Schindler's List and Sixth Sense. And then, we'll try to ignore Flintstones and War of the Worlds. Not only that, but it perfectly recreates the scene with (SPOILERS) Obi-Wan in mid-air about to get burned by Darth Vader, but the other lady shooting to put a barrier between Obi-Wan and Vader, and Ned-B coming to get him.

Obi-Wan's new hair component is impressive though, capturing great texture and matching his printed beard. I like the expressions chosen for this minifigure too, as one side displays a slight smile, while the other seems angry. The same double-sided head and dark orange hair element are available in 75336 Inquisitor Transport Scythe. I’m absolutely certain this scene isn’t meant to be what Vader was talking about in Episode IV. The show isn’t over, and this is pretty clearly not what was described as the rematch of the century. I’m honestly kind of stunned so many fans seem to think that this incredibly one-sided encounter halfway through the series is supposed to be it, and that The Big Fight wouldn’t come later in the series, if not near the very end. Son, you have every right not to like current Star Wars, but it's a got-dang piece of fiction, and you can take your dollars elsewhere. Also, I'm always amazed at how people who love fiction about heroes and good vs. evil stories can get some blasted disdainful towards other people over a luxury good. Would Luke Skywalker hit someone with a bus? Would the Jedi? Would Yoda?C’mon, Lego: you can do better than this! Admittedly, I don’t know what constraints they were given by Disney (which could have been in many levels) but I feel that they could have done so much more for a low- to mid-range set. Yet, as part of that wave, 75334 Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Vader does unfortunately stand out, for two reasons that really work against each other –the price and what’s on offer. — LEGO Star Wars 75334 Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Vader set details — Furthermore, pressing a lever behind the cargo sled causes this vehicle to tip, releasing even more trans-orange 1x1 slopes onto the battlefield! They improve the appearance of the model, breaking up the monochrome base, while the cargo sled features unexpected detail. The visual similarities between this sled and NED-B seem appropriate. This is no peak Anakin vs. Obi-Wan battling it out across the molten lava of Mustafar, so turning this into a LEGO set won’t produce something as fun and dynamic as 75269 Duel on Mustafar, where the scenery so visibly and playfully adds to the action you can play out between the characters, just as it did in Revenge of the Sith.

Removing the helmet does reveal something to differentiate this version of Darth Vader from others though, as the head is unique. The scarring looks suitably gruesome, as always, while Vader's hateful expression is preferable to his usual smile. Intricate detail continues across the reverse and this minifigure wields a red lightsaber. Tala Durith presents another use of the warm tan skin tone introduced earlier this year, which suits her perfectly. Of course, the minifigure closely resembles other Imperial officers, although features a unique captain's rank indicator that reflects Tala's onscreen rank. Dual-moulded legs would have enhanced this figure further, but are omitted. The price is unarguably more than the set is actually worth, but the same can be said for most LEGO Star Wars sets nowadays. The characters put into minifigure form are where 75334 Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. Darth Vader clearly is strongest. This is perhaps best summed up in how an arm-printed version of Darth Vader manages to be the least interesting of the four in the set, and just last year that was a highly-desirable minifigure.
