Alex: I would definitely recommend including the full user guide with this product as it was not practical to search online to find a fix to the issues I was facing when setting up the movement pad. I would also recommend providing some additional guidance on setting the sensitivity of the movement pad as it took a while to get this right for my baby. Ease of use: If other caregivers will be looking after your baby, consider if they will be able to use it easily. Will you require remote access and additional cameras? The Sensor Pad LED will light up GREEN and flash to show the connection is good and continuous movement is detected from child. Ensure the Camera and movement sensor mat are in the same room, less than 10 metres apart, or you may be unable to detect movement. The baby movement monitor includes a sensor mat that is placed underneath your baby’s mattress. You will be alerted if baby is still for a prolonged period or if there’s a sudden big movement in their sleeping area. It also has a CrySensor that listens out for baby’s cries during the night and can play lullabies or nature sounds to help soothe and settle your little one to save you from having to rush to their room every time they stir. This monitor just comes with the camera that connects to your smart device via Wi-Fi and Sense-U’s free app, but other more advanced options are available from the brand including the Baby Monitor 3 that comes with a device that attaches to your baby’s clothes or nappy to monitor their temperature, their movements, and if they’ve rolled over. There’s also a Pan-Tilt-Zoom Video model that allows you to move the camera via your phone, and the Video + Breathing version that can monitor your child’s breathing (much like the Angelcare AC527). Movement sensors: Some monitors, generally on the more expensive end of the spectrum, come with a movement sensor that can be slipped under your baby’s mattress. This will detect your little one’s breathing and will sound an alarm if no movement is detected after a given period of time. It can be great for extra peace of mind, particularly with newborns. How do video baby monitors work? Play up to 6 lullaby/nature sounds. lullaby function which be remotely turnedon or off using the Parent unit.

Key specs – Range: 450m; Additional features: Low-battery indicator, out-of-range indicator, long battery life, light-up display when baby moves, belt clip; Warranty: 1 year Tested out all the features, including the sensory movement mat, to see how the babies responded to them and which we used the most. Audio quality: You need to be able to hear your baby clearly while they are in a different room, so the sound quality of your chosen monitor must be high enough to meet your needs. Look for a decent volume range and a monitor that promises no signal interference or lagging. It’s clear that technology has come a long way in the last couple of years when it comes to baby monitors. Designed to sit on nearby furniture, the camera itself is white, and fairly small in size, so it will look discreet in your baby’s room. Tilt, pan, zoom Slip the control box underneath the mattress and keep out of reach of baby, placing it as far away from the movement sensor mat as possible.Secure sound, motion and video baby monitor: Keep a close eye and ear on your baby while they sleep without waking them with the Dreamee Sleep and Nursery Video Monitor System Wait for the movement indicator to start flashing. You’ll hear two beeps from the camera, indicating pairing has been successful. If you prefer not to use the pole, the petite camera can be removed and placed directly on a straight and sturdy surface on its own. This is a rechargeable camera so it doesn’t have to be plugged in to operate, so there are no hazardous wires anywhere near your baby. The battery life is impressively long and can comfortably last all night, but it’s advisable to charge it daily to ensure it never runs out of juice. Note: To activate your movement sensor mat, set the movement monitoring function to ON in the menu. There’s also a handy sound-activated nightlight and an inbuilt room thermometer with Hi/Lo alarm so you can easily monitor the temperature in your baby’s room. The low radiation and energy-saving VOX mode function switches the monitor into sleep mode when baby is sleeping but wakes up again as soon as sound is detected.

Video baby monitors send signals from a camera to the parent unit via either digital signals or your Wi-Fi network, as long as the two devices are connected to the same network. Siobhan: The best thing about this product is how it will play sounds to soothe your baby to sleep as and when needed. I would recommend this product to any mum looking for 100 per cent satisfaction that their baby is safe. I would also tell them if their baby is a newborn that the movement monitor is a great touch. We didn't get a chance to use this as my baby is 8 months old now and isn't really required but I do think it's a brilliant feature. Would you choose this product above all others on the market? Daisy: This product is easy to use, has a very good design and also such great quality, especially for the price. The camera itself is compact but does not comprise on quality. It has a very large range and can cover some space and is the perfect addition to any nursery. The picture is so clear, especially compared to our previous camera and I felt a lot happier being able to see my baby so clearly, which is great even when you open your eyes in the middle of the night and can see your baby as if they are next to you. The movement sensor also really put my mind at rest. If movement is detected again after the alarm has activated the alarm will stop and the red alarm light will flash on the baby unit and the parent unit to let you know that the alarm has activated. The Tommee Tippee Dreamee parent unit, camera and motion pad are all made of white plastic, which is easy to wipe down as and when required. Is the Tommee Tippee Dreamee good value for money?Camera and video quality: Not all monitors are created equal when it comes to video quality, so be sure to compare and contrast models to find the best in your budget. Look at whether the monitor has decent night vision as well as day vision, and whether the lens offers a bird's-eye, 360-degree view of your baby's room. She then drew up a final shortlist of 12 baby monitors and got to work testing them all over a three-month period when her youngest son was just six months old. How we tested The app offers two-way talk, sound and movement notifications, and temperature and humidity information, as well as breathing measurements when you use the Nanit swaddle or wearable breathing band. Both of these need to be bought separately or as part of a larger bundle. Then each morning the app also provides baby's sleep stats and creates a time-lapse highlight reel of their sleep. Of course, not everyone wants this kind of detail but you can’t fault this monitor for its technology. If you’re reassured by stats and analytics, it’s worth spending the extra money or keeping an eye out for a deal. We spoke to these real parent testers to get their review... How did this product make your life easier?

Our parent tester overall found the menu system on easy to understand but less responsive compared to others she had tested such as the VTech RM7767HD Baby Monitor. You may need to adjust the sensitivity as baby grows and gains weight. Note: Before attempting to adjust the sensitivity knob, wait for at least 15-20 min until your baby has settled down or fallen asleep. Included in the kit you'll find a compact movement sensor pad that fits discreetly under your baby's mattress. Our tester Jenny was initially worried that her child would be able to feel the pad underneath, but they were unaware and the pad did a good job of alerting Jenny when her child rolled around and moved in any direction. The motion sensor works via batteries (which aren’t included) but positioning the motion pad is relatively straightforward, placing it underneath the mattress where your baby is positioned during the night. What is the audio and video quality like? To help you make an informed decision, we rigorously test baby monitors on an ongoing basis. Our parent testers try out the monitors at home with their own children, in real-life conditions. We score each model based on a number of factors including video quality, ease of set-up, connection and design. We also consulted experts from The Lullaby Trust and spend hours combing the Mumsnet forums to see which baby monitors are recommended as best buys and which come with words of warning according to the UK's biggest network of parents.
