Songs: Assuming you’ve already mastered the “Smoke on the Water” riff, we look for books that include an expansive song list with satisfying-to-play jams that you can start strumming after a few lessons. 1. Guitar Book for Adult Beginners

Horrible title, great book. This is one of the best guitar books for beginners because although it is a complete reference guide to the guitar, it goes through learning the material in a sequence that results in a satisfying playing experience as the first goal. It also includes suggestions and tips for practicing, so you can immediately use the information in the book to set up a consistent practice routine.

The accompanying audio serves as a metronome to help you develop your rhythm skills as well as demonstrating the daily exercise. Joseph Alexander, one of the authors, is a guitar instructor and a prolific author of guides. Tim Pettingale is a jazz guitarist and writer of jazz guitar books.

I might be just a teeny tiny bit biased here – this was my first ever guitar book, and I pretty much taught myself using this book. That’s why, let me tell you from personal experience, that this is one of the best guitar instructional books of all time! Complete Technique for Modern Guitar’ contains 200 exercises that are designed to help you play with more precise timing and dexterity. He teaches guitar, songwriting, bass, and music theory, and his book reflects the depth of experience he has with people who are just starting to learn the guitar. Like ‘Teach Yourself Guitar’ and ‘Guitar for Absolute Beginners’, this book does not take you beyond the beginning phase of playing guitar, allowing you to learn skills in an easy sequence. Although some of the method books like ‘Teach Yourself Visually’ and ‘Guitar for Absolute Beginners’ discuss practice, ‘Guitar Aerobics’ supplements those books by telling you exactly what to do to build a particular skill. Go ahead & call me a book worm or ban me & my books, but I can assure you that I have used all forms & methods of learning musical instruments including videos, and my favourite & fastest way of learning still remain books. This is another killer book by Damon Ferrante. You are getting about 5 years of experience all wrapped into one book. And all for a super affordable price. I’d call that a steal. This book covers all of the basics, music theory, fretboard theory, chord theory and it is in lesson-based format. It is also extremely useful for people playing the piano cause it covers material in a general format and is not only limited to guitars. Every lesson is clear and easy to understand.

Method: Take into account how the lessons are structured, and if they’re designed for absolute beginners who have no idea what they’re doing or for immediate learners. Learning proper technique takes time, and a good guitar book will take this into account. We like guitar books that include accompanying video you can follow along with, as well as a few basics of music theory and music reading. The book is a culmination of so many popular guitar and teaching techniques from around the world, and it contains 3 versions. The first part talks about the basics such as tuning, musical staff, basic chords and also contains over 80 songs which are super fun if you’re starting out. Book 2 covers a little more complex stuff (which is where you’ll have all the fun) like fingerstyle playing, syncopations, some more interesting, complex chords, etc. Book 3 covers a few advanced techniques like major and minor pentatonic scales, shapes which you can move along the fretboard, techniques like hammer-ons and pull-offs. I’m glad a book like this exists! Most people, especially beginners, don’t pay much attention or are uneducated about maintaining and repairing a guitar. This book covers everything from A to Z with set up, maintenance, and repairing acoustic, electric, and bass guitars. Whether you want to be the next Frank Zappa or Misha Mansoor, you’ll have to start with a strong foundation of the basics and gradually work your way to the top. Guitar books can be a great reference or instructional resource to help you achieve your goals (we also have a guide on how to read tab if you need it). Each chapter of the book simulates a lesson plan, including anecdotes and clear instructions on what to do with your guitar, and reading it feels like sitting in a guitar class with a thoughtful and funny teacher. Surprised to see a non-guitar book here? Don’t be. Being a musician is not just about playing your instrument, but also about your attitude towards your instrument and your performance. While this book might not contain much technical guitar information, this is equally as important as any guitar book. Purely psychological. Teach Yourself Visually Guitar is both a step-by-step guide to playing acoustic or electric guitar and an accessible reference guide. The current edition comes with an audio CD, but the next edition of the book will have online audio.

There are two more books in the Hal Leonard series that continuously advance as you get through each book. They’re very popular and are easy to find in music stores, specialty stores, and even online. There are two recommended ways to tune your guitar, one is by ear, and the other way is with a clip-on tuner. The major scale is the most popular scale in music. This scale is used in every genre from heavy metal to blues, from pop to indie. But what is the major scale?

The book presents 100 exercises all beginner guitar players need to work on to advance their guitar technique. The exercises start from the early beginner level and increase in difficulty naturally, just as a beginner player gets better, day-by-day. The author does a good job in explaining the right and wrong ways to practice, and how long each exercise should be carried out. Below we present our collection of more than 20 books to learn to play the guitar in PDF format where you will find manuals for beginners, intermediate and experts. The book is designed to help people who do not read music start to make music right away with simple melodies, and then chords and a few riffs. With that in mind, how should you tune your guitar? The universal standard tuning is E, A, D, G, B, E, and this is what most of the songs you’ll learn early on are in tune with. The Basics of TAB
