About this deal

Start by creating a photocopy of your picture using a dry toner powdered copier and cut the image to size. TIP: When repeating the wet and rubbing steps to remove the paper, I highly recommend using a very light touch as you do not want to remove the paper too fastor possibly rub too deep to disturb your transfer image.

After 72 hours, you can start removing the paper to reveal the mod podge photo transfer. To do this, you’ll begin by spraying the piece with water or dampening it with a wet sponge. As the paper gets wet, you will be able to see the picture through the paper. Once dry, a white haze may form where some of the paper still remains. Repeat the wetting process until all the paper residue is gone. Finally, you will also need Mod Podge. Some wood photo transfer techniques use gesso or another type of gel medium, but I just use Mod Podge matte. It’s easy to find in any craft store and most big box stores. If you have a lot of exposed, non-painted glass, you’ll see brushstrokes. You can choose to use a spouncer for a more textured look if you choose. It’s very difficult to avoid brushstrokes on clear glass with an acrylic product. You can use just about anything with Mod Podge on glass. Okay, not “anything,” but here are the most common items:Then, place the image face-down on to the fabric, smoothing it out with your fingers or a squeegee. Understand that the images are always going to have a vintage look. This is the case when you transfer any image to wood, canvas, etc. as well. That is the result of using this medium. NOTE: there is a Mod Podge Photo Transfer medium made specifically for photo transfers, but I prefer NOT to use it. The photo transfer mod podge will transfer the whites in your photo, whereas using normal mod podge turns the whites in your photo clear, allowing the wood grain to show through any white space. Paint the Piece with Mod Podge You might be wondering how the image goes from the inkjet printer/whatever you print out, and onto the wood. It’s magic! It’s actually not magic though.

My HP works very well because it has a very dry ink. There are about 10,000 different printers out there, so I’d say your best bet is to do a small test if you’re unsure. This will help you practice too! Grab a small scrap of paper and print out a small image – let’s say 2″ or 3″ square. So here’s my process. I cut the image down to size, and then place it face up on my Mod Podge silicone mat. I use a foam brush to apply the transfer medium over the top of the photo until the image is obscured completely – meaning, I can’t see any of the photo. Yep, you heard right! You can do an inkjet photo transfer to wood with just Mod Podge. I love transferring images to wood – they make these personalized rustic little pieces that are perfect to just sprinkle around the house or to give as a small personalized gift. I want to make sure you come away with a thorough knowledge of how to be successful with your project. There are definitely some secrets to success.Immediate place your printed photo with the image face down on the wood pallet. Use a credit card or brayer to smooth the paper down, smoothing out any air bubbles. Wipe off any excess medium that squeezes out the sides. Dry for 72 Hours Are you interested to see how I did this wood craft? I know you’ll use this technique for transferring photos all the time after I teach you. So read on! Inkjet Transfer to Wood Use DRY ink. Laser prints work as well as DRY ink toner prints (like HP ink). You may have to do some research or experiment to see if your printer has dry ink.

When people ask me “why should I use Mod Podge photo transfer instead of regular Mod Podge?” Well . . . this is one big reason. Place the paper image side down on the Mod Podge. Press firmly to make sure there are no air bubbles. Let it dry completely.

Start by creating a photocopy of your picture using a dry toner powdered copier and cut it to size. Protect your workspace. I laid everything on a silicone mat, which is great for this. You can use wax paper if you’d like but make sure to protect your work surface.
