The mythology aspect wasn’t my favorite too but again, it was interesting enough. That said, the Book of Fairy Tales provides an exciting umbrella to the Villains series and introduction to Never Never.The Many Kingdoms and the Odd Sisters universe is rich, intricate and inviting, and is fantastically interwoven with Hook’s origins. Fans will delight in being reunited with some of their favorite Valentino characters, and there is also great humor in this story. I cared immensely for James and felt so heartbroken reading about how much hurt and pain he experienced. Hence why I cannot love the book even though it has a good craft just looking at the character and his journey. Their voices are distinct and richly drawn, from Day’s self-deprecating affection for others to June's Holmesian attention to detail. All the flavor of a post-apocalyptic setting—plagues, class warfare, maniacal soldiers—escalates to greater complexity while leaving space for further worldbuilding in the sequel. I mostly enjoyed the new entry of Serena Valentino's series. I thought the beginning was promising, the ending brilliant, and the twists and turns intriguing.

Regarding the story, I liked it a great deal - I thought James was a really interesting character and his descent into Captain Hook proved more interesting than I imagined. I hated the fact that Circe warned him not to go to Neverland and yet he still chose to do so. It's unfortunate what happened to him there, but he did get warned! No one ever warned Lady Tremaine! (or so I remember, correct me if I'm wrong). Can you sense I'm still a bit bitter about Lady Tremaine's fate haha?
