About this deal

I particularly love the wheels and tyres on this car, which are shared between it and several other Tamiya buggies. Each wheel comes in three-pieces, all joined together by little screws so they are quite elaborate. The tyres all have high side-walls – not that efficient because they aren’t as rigid during cornering as today’s low-profile tyres. But they have a lovely, scale dune-buggy look about them. And the fact they are so fat – particularly at the rear – is all part of that 70s/early 80s-philosophy where a lot of cars in various motorsport around the world (even Formula 1) were thought to perform better if they had massive, fat rear tyres.

Just like the original, this re-release features an easy to assemble chassis and drivetrain consisting of a durable but lightweight ABS resin bathtub frame, Tamiya's commitment to quality extends beyond the cars themselves. They also offer a wide selection of spare parts, upgrades, and maintenance tools, ensuring that enthusiasts can keep their RC cars in top condition. Additionally, Tamiya provides excellent customer support, with detailed documentation, online resources, and a dedicated community of fellow hobbyists who readily offer advice and assistance. piece wheels give the car authentic buggy looks, with grooved front tires and rear spike tires guaranteeing superb performance on- and off-road. Tamiya's main goal is to offer the most rewarding modeling experience possible. Grasping the various parts, assembling, and finally painting a finely crafted model is truly a special and rare experience in today's modern world.LiPo cut off: http://www.modelsport.co.uk/skyrc-power-switch-w-lipo-cut-off/rc-car-products/384811 (looks like a good one with auto cut off) To me though, there’s actually another golden era within that first 100, and it consists mainly of a group of early off-road buggies that were actually inspired by animal concepts and symbolism (plus a few buggies either side of this period). Broadly, you might refer to these buggies as “character cars” due to the fact they came in eye-catching shapes, colours, and with quirky decals and unusual names. The Hornet is an upgraded version of the Grasshopper. However, the Hornet and Grasshopper are similar in the fact that they are both two-wheel-drive off-road buggies. They also share identical features like the bathtub chassis. The only downside to the Hornet is that it doesn’t have a longer runtime like the Grasshopper. How fast is the Tamiya Hornet?

The popularity of Tamiya RC cars and kits is further evidenced by the existence of numerous competitions and racing events worldwide. These events bring together enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels to showcase their driving abilities and the performance of their Tamiya RC cars. The camaraderie and excitement fostered by these events have made Tamiya a driving force in the RC community. Looks like the Sand Viper comes with ball bearings setup? Should I still be getting some rubber sealed ones? Since then, the Grasshopper Kit has undergone a remake twice, in 2005 and 2018, with the new model looking different from the original. Tamiya Hornet The body is polycarbonate (clear) and will need to be painted on the inside with a particular type of paint, you would need to add that to your cost.

The model's lightweight and durable chassis is based around a bathtub-type frame with reinforced plastic parts such as suspension arms and gearbox. Of course, you could paint and decal your Hornet any way you liked, but as with all my Tamiyas I think I love the original designs too much to deviate. And this is also how the manual suggests you build and detail the model. I must have poured over that catalogue a million times growing up, and here’s the classic product photo of the Hornet as Tamiya intended it to be… Since 1984, Tamiya has produced three different Hornet models making the Hornet one of the longest-running Tamiya kits. In 2004, Tamiya produced a remake of the Hornet, totally different from the original. The first time I ever saw a Tamiya Hornet in action was also the first time I ever saw a Tamiya. I think I was about 8 or 9 years old and my family had been invited to some kind of dinner party at a friend’s house. The friends in question were fairly well known people in the town where I lived, so there were quite a lot of people at this party – maybe 50 or so.

First post here, so hello! I'm completely new to the world of RC bar having a few pre-built standard RC cars when I was a kid. diff gear loaded sealed gearbox, oil filled rear dampers, powerful RS 540 motor and high performance suspension system. The oil filled rear dampers made me quite concerned if I would be able to get them right, due to the fluid involved. They turned out allright. The 540 silver can is fast enough for the hornet chassis, any faster motor would be too much.Dont even consider brushless. its probably easier to build than the hornet, much tougher, will handle brushless power, bigger battery tray and parts are pennies for it.After wanting to build something like a Team Associated B5M or B44.3 I decided it'll be more sensible to go for something like the Tamiya Hornet as I'm completely new to this so 1. don't want to spend too much yet and 2. don't know what I'm doing, so don't want to put myself off, or go wrong building something like the B44.3. I also like the idea of upgrading a cheaper car gradually. The differential is enclosed in a sealed gearbox to ensure that dust and dirt stay outside, allowing it to continue providing the Hornet's trademark smooth cornering. Equipped with that polycarbonate body, tough bathtub type chassis, and big flexible front bumper, the car is as tough as they say. If you ever hear anyone complain that their Hornet broke or that this car was inherently weak, remember that there are fools in the world who will drive their R/C vehicles off the rooves of houses, or set them on fire. Under normal use, the Hornet would last a lifetime. x 17ml Vallejo model paints. Vallejo paintsare supplied in plastic bottles of 17ml with an eyedropper device which keeps paint from drying and prevents spills. The model color range has been specifically developed for adherence on difficult surfaces such as metal and plastic, but the product is not toxic, not flammable, and does not give off noxious fumes. In conclusion, Tamiya RC cars and kits have firmly established themselves as the epitome of remote-controlled excellence. With their attention to detail, wide range of options, exceptional performance, and customization possibilities, Tamiya continues to captivate hobbyists and enthusiasts around the globe. Whether you're a seasoned RC car enthusiast or just starting your journey, Tamiya offers an experience like no other, where passion, craftsmanship, and innovation converge to create the perfect balance of fun and excitement.

Inside the kit, the Hornet is a relatively simple model to build. It’s a 1/10 scale 2WD utilising a bathtub chassis, to which everything else connects.

Thankfully the boxart Hornet has a very simple 1-tone-paintjob. Peeling off the overspray film to reveal a mirror finish surface felt very rewarding. Getting the decals to line up well was tough, though. The re-re Hornet comes with silver decals for the roof tube structure as well, which just won't stay were they should be. This is were Shoegoo came into play. I did several runs with the Hornet before getting the driver figure and front lights done.
