About this deal

This is useful because it means you can potentially make the fine-tuning adjustments from your listening position, rather than having to lean behind the speakers to do so. It also means that you can access a higher level of control. There’s a full six-band EQ with shelves, delay, Q adjustment and other advanced DSP settings, so you can get super-granular. You can save favourite settings, too.

Dynamics/power capability was excellent. I could listen quite loud and most of the time not hear any distortion. When there was some, it was grittiness that set in quite gently. Considering that I listen to only one speaker, you should be in very good situation using them in desktop application (how I tested it).

Tech Specs

The Adam Audio A4V is a two-way Nearfield Speaker Monitor that features a 4-inch long-throw woofer design and made using Multi-Layer Mineral (MLM) fibres (same as what you would find on other A Series speakers) and a classic X-ART tweeter. The “Ext” option is dedicated to the extended functionality that comes with A Control via the Ethernet connection. Using A Control’s six-band EQ, a custom voicing and be created and pushed to the monitor As they’re part of a larger range and are not Adam Audio’s entry-level monitors, using a pair of them in a small home studio does put you at the bottom end of the target user base. Some of the features, such as fine-tuning and remote control via Ethernet using the A Control app, or uploading Sonarworks filter sets to them, are arguably more suited to professional use and multi-speaker systems in studios, and you may regard these as overkill. In that case, Adam Audio has its simpler, cheaper F Series of monitors that may be a better choice for you. Adam Audio made it easy to rotate the tweeter 90 degrees, so the dispersion still works correctly no matter how they’re set up. The A Series combines the best of both digital and analogue worlds. The woofers are driven by Class D amplifiers that help produce linear performance while reducing distortion. These amplifiers were chosen specifically for their power and efficiency, in terms of both energy consumption and sound reproduction. Low thermal dissipation allows for a smaller heat sink, which facilitated additional investment in the exceptional power and performance of the A Series

The new, revamped A series took what was so popular about these distinctive boxes and brought them bang up to date. Available in a range of sizes from the compact three way A8H, the original new low-profile A44H and the replacement for the super-popular two way A7X, the A7V, down to the diminutive A4V. It was this smallest of the range I chose to audition for this first look at the range because while it isn’t the most impressive and probably won’t be the most popular, I suspect it might be the most important. A Series speakers are designed to be adaptable to changing requirements, preferences, and environments. Using the A Control software, you can push advanced filters directly to an embedded platform onboard the monitors to help compensate for imperfect room acoustics. This embedded platform supports filters from industry leading third-party Sonarworks. Using Sonarworks software and a measurement mic, you can calibrate your speakers for a new room or shifting taste Adam Audio use HPS (High-Frequency Propagation System) waveguide technology which means the tweeters can disperse sound with controlled consistency. The rotatable aspect has been added to the A Series, where tweeters can be shifted in 90-degree steps. This means that whichever way the speaker is placed (horizontally or vertically), the HPS waveguide technology will be in full operation. The Presence setting offers +1dB, 0dB, and -1dB. It doesn’t make a huge impact, but the -1dB setting is especially helpful for tiny studio spaces. Finally, the Treble option offers +1.5dB, 0dB, and -1.5dB. I have a hard time imagining the need for a treble boost, but the -1.5dB is an excellent option to tame the top end if you find it a little bright. The Adam Audio A4V is a 2-way studio monitor ideal for mixing, producing and podcasting. The A4V features a broad 52 Hz to 45 kH frequency response, allowing you to experience a true image of your music. Offered at a more affordable price point than the larger A7V, the A4V delivers crystal-clear sound with exceptional accuracy in a compact form factor. The A4V active studio monitor’s size is ideal for producers, engineers and artists working in smaller control rooms or home studios where space is limited. Revolutionary Technology But you do need to have their app running on your laptop and your audio routed through it for it to apply the “filter set”– which takes resources, adds complication, and is hard if not impossible to set up when using external audio gear like DJ kit. The A4V thrives as part of all-encompassing, 3D multi-speaker configurations or when operating at short listening distances. You can even fine-tune the sound to suit your room using the integrated DSP-based tuning functionality! Impressive Engineering Anyway, these are called the A4V because they have 4″ woofers – small, in other words. While KRK’s speakers, for instance, are instantly recognisable by their yellow cones, Adam Audio’s are nearly as iconic for their unusual-looking rectangular folded ribbon tweeters, which they call X-ART. These can be unscrewed easily and rotated 90 degrees so the dispersion happens correctly, even if you’ve got the speakers positioned (as we do) horizontally – a nice touch. Adam Audio speakers are easy to spot due to their trademark folded ribbon tweeter.
