While the gas catching alight happens all day this phenomenon can only be seen when the sunsets. For this reason I strongly recommend you join the Ijen Midnight Tour. It's not even disguised. It developed a bit of a cult following to the extent that conventions often have an ice cream run where groups of fans run through the convention dressed as Willrow, carrying the ice cream maker and shouting 'Ice cream!' That bag is cool though! Good effort!Ahh the good old Bibbidy con, the amount of begging small children in that place is amazing. Cemoro Lawang is a beautiful place to stay, but accommodation here is basic and expensive when compared to Yogyakarta. I’d recommend staying at one of the hotels that has a direct view of Bromo. My personal favourite is Lava View Lodge, which is one of the better hotels in Cemoro Lawang, has a great breakfast and offers beautiful views of Bromo Volcano. Day 5: Bromo Jeep Tour

I know that a lot of the set and props of the original movies was built from a job lot of aviation junk that was obtained cheaply from a breakers near to the location. Take a public bus to Cemoro Lawang or hire a van with your new friends to reach your destination. If there are no public buses available, don’t freak out, you can always find a van. It will take around an hour – an hour and a half to reach Cemoro Lawang. If you’re too tired, you can also do Ijen during the day as long as you don’t mind missing out the blue fires. The combination of these factors gives Ijen a unique appearance, which attracts tourists from all over the world. Yet the most famous thing about Ijen is the blue fire! You can walk to reach the temple.
