About this deal

First, a disclaimer: I have not read the first book and my rating has been impacted by this because the MC's meet in the first book. So when this book begins they already know each other. I felt like I was walking in the middle of the story. One of my favorite parts of reading romance is the first meeting so this didn't bode well for me. I will admit I was frustrated with how little the characters were together in the beginning of the book. It felt like ages before they even talked (and this was due to telling their individual stories. Nothing wrong with that, it’s just not what I personally prefer in romance). It was about 20% in and they had only had what felt like 2 very short conversations. This group is a safe environment, where readers can find awesome new books to obsess over while gaining deeper insight into the creation of their favorite stories. She did not want to do anything with the earl, but nor did she want his flirtation to end. It was pleasant to be wanted, to be courted and not forced into something she did not want. Romney had not tried anything of the kind.

What did we need?” she moaned. His hand dipped between her legs, cupping her cunny, his thumb making lazy, taunting circles upon her sex. This was too much and yet not enough. Though I will say that Quincy and Clara’s interactions are only improved by the contrast of Quincy’s interactions with his mother. Clearly, the Dowager Duchess of Reigate is absolutely the villain of this story. But she is written in such a way that you know she isn’t going to win, and you definitely want to see how she gets thwarted. Quincy is not fooled by any of her society scheming and, happily, neither is Clara. Nor is any of Clara’s family, I’m pleased to say. Sometimes, you’ll have stories with these horrible society women and men that are just awful to others, but because they’re super-high up on the social food chain people have to pretend that they’re okay with all their shit and it’s annoying. But that does NOT happen here, so the Duchess of Reigate doesn’t get to run roughshod any of our main characters (poor Lady Mary, having to deal with that seabeast...) It was heartwarming to see Quincy’s and Clara’s willingness to give up something important to them just to make each other happy, even if it didn’t led to them being together. It tugged on my heartstrings. The way they were able to embrace each other’s circumstances and still want to be together in spite of it was lovely. Ugh, I don’t like this – purposefully flirting with another man, especially towards the end of the book (we’re at almost 80% here) These emotions made the story dialogue more convincing. Now I will talk about the fun naughty parts. Oh my gosh Tatum, if I had a husband like him, honey he could take and have me anywhere. Millie, hang on for all the many days and nights of living in ecstasy. I give this book two snaps in a, Lady Sinclair, get your own play toy.

Clara’s great-aunt, Lady Olivia Tesh, is ALWAYS trying to set Clara up with eligible men and Clara hates it when she does that. Not just because Clara simply doesn’t want to marry. Her reasons for that run deep and cold - to the point that she’s buried them utterly and is simply out to help her family. This is not the book’s fault, but this is like the 10th book in a row I’ve read that had other man/other woman drama. I am just so tired of it :( I do like possessiveness and jealousy in romance, but it just didn’t grab me in this one. She is one of those authors that you forget how good she really is until you read the next book of hers. The last book in this series just came out a month ago and even though I've read 31 books since then, was still excited to read another Tamara Gill book. I wish her books were a bit longer in length because I read them so fast. Her stories are always great reads and she always writes such great sex scenes. They are so well written. Any new author or established authors that write or trying to write sex scenes, read Tamara Gill books. She writes damn good sex scenes. As I mentioned earlier, the Epilogue was absolutely perfect. Set several years into the future, it showed perfectly how their love had grown and flourished. I was left with a question though – whatever happened to the nasty duchess? No mention of her after her last departure from James’ home. I REALLY wanted to know that Quincy had exacted revenge of some sort – even if it was just moving her to a tiny dower house on some remote property.

Fantastic characters, main and secondary alike. You couldn’t help but want them to have their HEA even if you had no idea how that was going to happen. Well done Tamara Gill can’t wait for the next instalment. I never really felt like Quincy's character gave me anything beyond a penciled outline; like I mentioned, though, I didn't read the first book and more of his sea adventures could have been covered there. Clara had more to her but so much of it was the constant hovering of her mysterious past mistake. I read a good amount of Regency romance, so that could have affected my enjoyment, but the characters and storyline, unfortunately, felt like going through the Regency motions. Clara has a great-aunt that could be Lady Dansbury's (of Bridgerton series fame) understudy, the sprung on you dukedom, hidden scandal, and mean/evil parent. All these are elements that, in some way, over and over bring readers to the Regency sub-genre but there just wasn't any life or feeling delivered behind them for me here. There was also a lot of repetition about Tatum's situation in here, it was just beat to death that he didn't want to put his heart out there to be broken. Yeah, we got it. Quincy is the best friend of the Duke of Ashford, Clara's cousin. Clara and Quincy have an immediate attraction when they first meet in the last book. This book starts with Quincy unexpectedly inheriting a dukedom, and his past has secrets yet to be revealed to him. Millie is playing her Duchess part in public perfectly. Not to mention if she is to live a parse in public she might as well enjoy the dancing, & dining that a Duchess is allowed. But in private, they lead separate lives, with brief moments of friendship, But they still don't trust each other. Tatum however, seem to be jealous of Millie's popularity with the males at the ton. Could Mille be having an affair with one of the gentleman known to cheat with married woman?

Customer Reviews

Can I give this all the stars? Having already been introduced to Quincy and Clara in A Good Duke is Hard to Find, the first book in this series, made it easy to recall how much I liked these characters. Now, I love them. The angst when they both realize they are in love with the other was so palpable. Quincy is my new book boyfriend. Kiss you?” Millie gasped, standing. “How dare you ask such a thing from me when you promised you would not force me into a situation that I was not ready for,” she said, her heart pounding lout in her ears. Romney had trust issues stemming from his fiancée lying to him and leaving him at the altar as a young man. Since he vowed not to marry after that, his ex (Beaufort) was showing SHE was very much attached to HIM. I got mad and wanted to say “hey Romney, ever heard of sending her something like a congé” ?????

Overall, the characters in this story feel human. These are people with real problems, not modern author-stand-ins trying to shoehorn message fic into a story. They’re also good people who’ve been given a raw deal, but who deserve whatever happiness comes their way. But as was established in the first book of the series, the Isle of Synne is a place where happy endings and true love can be found. I highly recommend this book, and this series. I have needs, husband. Needs that after last night you have awoken. If you do not wish for me to seek solace and satisfaction elsewhere, then you know what you must do.” Millie watched him and bit her tongue to stop a smirk from lifting her lips. To gain his heart, to penetrate his cold outer shell, she had to do something, and right at this moment, the closest she oculd get to him by sharing his bed. Oh, and Quincy’s mother is a hag of the highest degree. The story makes that crystal clear from the beginning.Tatum Chance, Duke of Romney, wants nothing to do with love especially with his history, so getting married was the last thing he had planned. But when an innocent miss who can't count! is seen mistakenly stumbling into his room while he is ensconced in a bath, he’s left with little alternative. Millie Woodville wants nothing more than to find a love match exactly like her sisters & is looking forward to her season but whilst at her sisters house party she accidentally enters the wrong bedroom. Instead, she finds herself wed to a grumpy, quarrelsome, and unnervingly handsome man. Oh my, the duchess of Reigate is such an awful and bitter creature, my only regret is we do not learn if she ever gets her right comeuppance. She fed my blood-lust to see her crushed and even harmed, I would have happily walked on her in stilettos. Sorry. Though I will say that Peter’s reaction (and that of his wife, Lenora) upon finding out about this fake engagement is hilarious. As is every time Peter is shown stewing about the situation.

And she was, so much more than he'd first assumed. There was heartache in her, and passion, the part of her that she kept hidden from the world as vast and unfathomable as the sea itself." You would think he would have gained some perspective, he's an adult living in Regency England, no one goes through life without experiencing heartbreak, or shitty things in general, what makes him so GD special? As one of my final 2020 reads, Someday My Duke Will Come was an absolute gem. I’m so glad I ended my year with such a heartwarming historical romance! I stand by what I said in my review of book #1; Christina Britton is a talented writer whose imagery blends perfectly with the emotional aspects of the story to paint a compelling and beautiful picture. Main characters Quincy and Clara have both endured heartbreaking experiences that give them flaws, yet they are entirely believable characters who’ve remained kind and loyal despite their struggles. Honestly, they might just be my favorite historical romance couple of all-time! Also, Clara is an “older” heroine at thirty-one (I say this appreciatively as a woman in her late 20s), and Quincy is actually younger than her by a few years. These details were refreshing because I don’t know about you, but I’m a little tired of heroines in their early 20s falling for men aged 30+.Tatum is a Duke and friend of Lord Howley it's the reason for his attendance at a house party which will change his life forever! Millie is the youngest Woodville daughter with her head in the clouds and a mouth on her that won't quit! Authors, if you are a member of the Goodreads Author Program, you can edit information about your own books. Find out how in this guide. I was also a bit sad by the first kiss. Maybe I am weird but I live for that first kiss in a romance and I don’t feel we really even got a first kiss in this book. It was about two sentences long. Not descriptive. There was a lot of buildup before that so I wish it was more developed. This is really just a matter of personal preference though and not an indication that something is wrong with the book. The duke's steward does the work of a butler; an "old woman" takes Leticia's bags (this is a wealthy duke and a footman would do it); a groom drives a coach, instead of a coachman. I liked neither hero nor heroine.
