About this deal

Approx. 122.5 (W)x61.5 (H)x29.5 (D)mm /4.8(W)x2.4(H)x1.2(D) inches (excluding operating and protruding parts) White Balance: Daylight, Fluorescent, Fluorescent (Day White), Fluorescent (Daylight), Fluorescent (White), Manual, Shade, Tungsten The camera detects portrait subjects and automatically releases the shutter when it spots the subject smiling. The camera also detects when the subject is blinking and displays the message “Closed eyes have been detected”. The WG-80 is made for automatic operation, so photographers seeking hands-on, manual controls should look elsewhere. The capture modes are built around scene profiles; you can select different options for landscapes, macros, underwater shots, fireworks, food photos, and more. Outdoor-friendly Style Watch function to display the time on the LCD monitor, using an extended push of the OK button when the camera’s power is turned off

When the camera detects low-lighting conditions in still-image shooting, this mode automatically raises the sensitivity up to as high as ISO 6400, making it possible to use a higher shutter speed and effectively minimize the adverse effect of camera shake and subject shake when dealing with poor lighting conditions. The rechargeable D-L192 battery should be good for about 300 photos. I used the camera on and off over a few weeks and didn't deplete the battery, which is a good sign. It also supports on-the-go charging via USB, but we're disappointed to see the out-of-date micro USB type instead of USB-C. 5mm (28mm full-frame), f/3.5, 1/50-second, ISO 125 While the camera can of course record Full HD (16:9) video at 30 fps, it also offers a High Speed Movie mode for recording slow-motion video and an Underwater Movie mode suited to underwater movie recording. Movie and Underwater Movie modes offer Movie SR (shake reduction), which can be used to reduce the effects of camera shake. Movie editing features within the camera let you split video or create movie stills from selected frames. The camera’s HDMI connector (Type D) lets you display movies on TVs and other devices. Then there’s the LCD. It isn’t very good. The LCD panel only has a resolution of 230k dots. When reviewing your images, it’s almost impossible to tell if your photo is in focus. The viewing angles are horrendous too. Look at the screen from above or below, and it washes out. This makes it hard to compose your shot if you’re shooting down low. For monitoring, there is no viewfinder built into the camera, so there’s a strong reliance on the LCD screen to be good. Unfortunately, this display is not on the camera’s list of strengths. It’s 2.7 inches which feels cramped, and worse, it’s only 230,000 dots of resolution which means everything looks pixelated and you can’t actually tell if you got a subject in focus until the images and video are off the camera. There’s an anti-reflection coating on the screen, which is at least a bit helpful for viewing in sunny conditions, but it’s not going to eliminate the problem in a way that a brighter screen could help. In the menu options, there’s an “Outdoor View Setting” mode which is not helpful for sunny conditions. This mode can be set to -2, -1, Off, +1, or +2. The Ricoh WG-80 is a fair-weather camera. It’s okay if you never take it more than a few feet underwater or don’t shoot at dusk or take it indoors or try to shoot action. It’s an affordable camera for waterproof snapshots. I also think waterproof compacts make the best cameras for kids. And while there are better waterproof cameras out there, the WG-80 will be much better than the chintzy cameras marketed as kids’ cameras that break within a week.

Mylio Photos – Access your photos from anywhere, without the cloud! Easily showcase your photos on-the-go, resolve duplicates, find faces and look for those stunning locations. The Ricoh WG-80 features an autofocus system with nine focal points. This wouldn’t be much of an issue if you could choose which focal point you wanted to use. Unfortunately, you can’t. When you half-press the shutter in wide mode, you’re at the mercy of whatever the camera thinks you want to focus on. It’s often unreliable and not the fastest to find focus. This should be the most reliable feature in a point-and-shoot camera, and it’s not. The 5x optical zoom lens is a 28-140mm equivalent focal length and uses 11 elements in 9 groups, 5 of which are aspherical. The aperture cannot be manually chosen, but it appears that at the wide end, the aperture range is f/3.5 to f/4.2, and at the telephoto end, it’s f/5.5 to f/6.6. This is a versatile zoom range considering it’s all moving internally, and I can capture a good variety of shots that have a different feel to them based on the focal length chosen. 1x zoom. 2.2x zoom. 5x zoom. Auto, Daylight, Shade, Tungsten light, Fluorescent light(D:Daylight Color, N:Daylight White, W:White Light), Manual Flash-on and Flash-off modes. “Red-eye” compensation function employs a pre-discharge. Ring Light mode From my testing, the macro light isn’t quite bright enough to make much of an impact when there’s moderate lighting already. Even in the shade on a sunny day, I wouldn’t notice any difference between the macro light on and off if I wasn’t explicitly looking for the very subtle difference in the shadows. Indoors, the difference is much more apparent for macro subjects, and below are examples shot without the macro light, with the macro light, and with the standard flash. Macro light comparison. Off, Macro light on (full power), Regular Flash. With lighting provided by six LED lamps positioned around the lens, Digital Microscope mode supports super macro photography. At the default image size of 2M, the WG-80 offers up to 6.6× zoom for astonishing results that look almost like they were taken with a microscope. The WG-80 offers new image size options of up to 12M * that further enhance the potential of Digital Microscope mode with pictures that can be printed at large sizes or cropped during post-processing.

A rugged chassis ready for the outdoors.

It utilizes advanced detection technology to identify portrait subjects and automatically triggers the shutter when it detects a smiling expression on the subject's face.
