About this deal

When I'm not crocheting you can find me in the kitchen baking with my little ones, drinking iced coffee or watching Gilmore Girls. The reference guide is my favorite thing about this craft planner. Being able to find all the size charts and measurements in one place is so handy. There’s plenty of room to add more charts and notes as I go.

The hook size chart is so helpful when you’re trying to find the right size hook for a pattern. I can’t believe how many differnent sizes there are and how the letters can be used for multiple sizes, especially with the larger hook sizes. If you follow US and UK patterns put both charts side by side for easy comparison. I keep a simple lined notebook that is large enough to write in daily but small enough to carry in a purse. Other options include a blank journal, loose-leaf paper in a binder, and typewritten files on a computer. If you use a physical journal, you can embellish the cover with photographs or crochet. It’s your journal; do what you like to make it special. This comes the meatiest part of this article and where I pour out all my random ideas that you should jot down in your crochet journal. Feel free to comment below if I have missed something out or if you have even better ideas! I chose 2 different kinds of notebooks. A dot grid notebook for the reference guide and lined notebooks for my pattern notes and project planner. The dot grid notebook I used came with the leather journal. Yarn inventory sheets organized by weight, plus a blank one if you want to categorize in a different way. Then if you are wondering what kinds of yarn are best for your next amigurumi, some pointers to think through would include yarn material, name and brand, weight and ply, colours, quantity of each colour needed, dye lots, yardage needed or number of skeins needed, availability, costs and washability of yarn. I had a place for all the reference material I could dream of. Maybe too much 😉 Printable size charts were so easy to add to the binder. I was always looking up the same reference material. What size hook is a J? What size hat to make for a 6-month-old? I’ve tried quite a few systems to get my projects organized. Today I’m sharing the system that works best for me and how you can create the best craft and crochet project planner for you.

Evernote, ToDoist, Trello, Google Keep…I’ve tried them all. Evernote is the one I found most useful for a craft planner. The pdfs will print on letter size paper which you can put in a 3-ring binder or have bound at an office store. If the project is for a gift or a charity, include the name of its recipient in your crochet journal. Write about what that person or charity means to you. Also, if you’re giving the project away, take a picture first and tape it in your journal.

I added a clear zipper pouch to my crochet project journal. I was always looking for a pair of scissors, stitch markers, or a tapestry needle. This pouch is one handy place for all those gadgets. If you’re traveling the country or snuggled into your spot watching Netflix they’ll always be by your side. I have looked up “How many stitches do I need to start with when I crochet a circle?” more times than I care to admit. Now I don’t have to keep googling it. I just flip to the reference section in my crochet journal and get to work. Yarn Organization You can keep up to three notebooks in your traveler’s journal, or 2 notebooks and the pouch for extra tools. This traveler’s journal came with 2 elastics. If you want to add a third notebook you’ll need this set of extra elastic bands.

Arguably everyone's least favourite part but oddly enough, enforcing this really allows you to move from one project onto the next one swiftly instead of idling in between your WIPs. I loved using this when I was at home on my laptop. It was easy to search for the note I was looking for. There are many reasons to do and keep a crochet planner journal. First and foremost with most organizers, the idea is to stay organized! This helps with minimizing interrupted work and discourage you from moving onto the next thing so you can finish your crochet project or in this case, amigurumi. Do you have WIP’s in your pile that you have long forgotten what hook size or yarn you were using? [raises hand] In this part, we will be outlining the general idea for the project and here I subdivided them into either following a pattern or designing your own. 1) Following a pattern This idea came about because I love the leather travelers notebooks. Let’s go through the pros and cons of a crochet project journal then I’ll let you take a peek at how I set mine up.
