About this deal

It will pay dividends to really experiment with the crossover settings to get the best blend so to speak but I found that in most cases 150hz usually provides the best results - 140Hz at the very lowest - any lower & the sub can be localised. Play around with the crossover till you get the best sound. Spendor A1 (which I've also had) are IMO a better all-rounder and less fussy about placement due to their sealed box/infinite baffle design. They're not speakers with big personality, rather they major on even response across the frequency range, clarity and tonal accuracy.

The 1.1-inch soft dome tweeter is bigger than the standard 1-inch tweeter found on most speakers and is designed to provide a larger sweet spot for listening and blend better with the mid-range driver. In fact, these are the first speakers I have auditioned that sound better when not toed in or out. The recommended placement should be with the speakers pointing straight out into the listening room. I’ll speak more about this in my listening section of this review. I placed the Oberon 3s on speaker stands with the tweeters at ear height from my couch and roughly two feet from the front wall. The Dali is a pretty subwoofer, but I agree with Robbiey. Their stated frequency range is 28 Hz to 190 Hz +/- 3 dB. For music (except for pipe organs and synthesizers) it should do the job nicely. For HT, I'd be looking at subwoofers that will get you down to 20 Hz (and 25 Hz with excellent output). You have a medium size room (56 cu. meters or around 2,000 cu. ft) so at a minimum I'd be looking at the SVS PB-1000 (but if you have the funds, the PB-2000 would be an impressive improvement). Don't know where you call home, but SVS may be available to you. I've not tested much on it other than watching Iron Man at low volume and it sounded really good. Will try more movies out when I can. One thing I had to do is to increase the volume of the centre speaker as I was struggling to hear the dialogue. The launch of the DALI SUB E-9 F marks a new stage of what is possible at this level of subwoofers!Extension and output wise the SVS PC2000 would be best generally, though Arendal Sub1 in small room with some room gain would be great choice. Is your room small or medium sized? It has been designed so that the DALI SUB C-8 D subwoofer works just as well with music and movies. The SUB C-8 D is anything from a boombox because it has an 8″ down-firing woofer that is strong and detailed. The Dali sub C8D has a built-in Class-D digital amplifier and can deliver a massive 170 watts, with peaks of up to 220 watts. This low distortion amplifier delivers a strong, well-balanced sound to the bass cone that fills even the largest rooms. The C-8 D is melodic and quite capable of getting (very) loud. You get the punch you want from action movies, but the C8D is deft enough to let you hear the various textures of a bass guitar rather than just a single one-note bass boom while listening to music. I'm considering changing the AVR next to something with a better DSP that can output at 4k with HDR. Does anyone know if this will make much difference to the sound performance of my 5.1 system at all?

The Sony manual says to crank up the crossover to it's highest setting on the subwoofer and set the volume to half way then do a calibration to allow the AVR to set the correct crossover frequency for it. The AVR set the speakers crossover to 140hz. Prices valid in stores (all including VAT) until close of business on 28th November 2023. (Some of these web prices are cheaper than in-store, so please mention that you've seen these offers online.) For connections, run a stereo pair of RCA cables from the left/right pre-outs of the Leak Stereo 130 into the left/right line level inputs of the Dali E9F. If you're using two Dali E9F's, then one cable to each unit of course. I would start with one Dali E9F. I think you'll find it is enough. Would you guys still recommend Maratantz over Denon if I go with a stereo amp? And because of the amp can I go for a lower range receiver, for example on Denons, pair a 1600H/2600h with the stereo amp rather than 3600H? (assuming both have same features sets on room correction, etc.) All DALI subwoofers are compatible with almost any amplifier, receiver or processor due to the choice of LFE or LINE inputs.SVS PB2000 (PC2000) still outperforms (under 25hz) XTZ 1x12 / 12.17 and BK Mono+ if one is after the ultimate performance which i doubt in Harkon`s case... Arendal Sub1 is sealed model so it`s not a fair fight against PC2000. Harkon`s room is small so Arendal S1 or SB2000 "might" be enough there, some room gain helping them to dig really low. Prices should be very near each other. It would be nice to have CEA numbers from Arendal to compare it to SVS. SB2000 -3db 19hz, Arendal Sub1 -6db 18hz measured. But the bigger Arendal might have output advantage ~30hz upwards.. I have a feeling the Arendal guys knows how it compares to SVS as LSound sold both at same time.. Right now, I have a 10" Cambridge Audio Aero 9 (used to also have the 10" X500), a 10" XTZ 99W10.16 & a Velodyne SPL-800 Ultra - this one only goes up to 135Hz but works in my situation due to it being a small room & the sub is placed right next to the speakers. This should give you an idea of the types of subs to use/get. I do not use all three - it was just part of my quest to find the best suited subwoofer for the Minx Speakers!! Having discounted the KEF LS50s, I demoed the Dali Menuet SEs and the Sonus Faber Sonetto 1s through a Rega Brio + Bluesound Node combination. How big your room is isn’t so much of an issue if you’re sitting fairly close to the speakers - the most important thing is the direct sound from the speakers and how far that has to travel. With Denon/Marantz av-receiver you also get the room correction (XT32) for speakers/sub, bass management, lot of cool features which may come handy. You can start with 2.1 and then add center channel later. Some people will go in-ceiling surrounds if not possible other way. Av-receiver would keep things open for future. You can still add 2ch integrated amp later if needed.

Unless it is a very potent performer, I personally would not get a 8" Sub as it will show its limits fairly early on - my Velodyne being an example of an exception to this. I would look at 10" subs ideally & maybe even a 12" one. The launch of the DALI SUB E-9 F marks a new stage of what is possible at this level of subwoofers! The SUB E-9 features a 9” woofer, capable of moving lots of air with power and precision. The cone is made from pure aluminum for maximum stiffness and a becoming exterior. Jimi Hendrix used the grandfather of the Stereo 130, the Stereo 30, as the basis of his personal stereo system along with the iconic Lowther Acousta 115 speakers. The entire cabinet is effectively decoupled from the floor by means of four polymer based oversized spikes. Appearing to hover above the floor the distance of 30 mm eliminates any potential turbulence from the space between the cabinet and the floor itself. Still, the proximity to the floor ensures that the benefit of having a down-firing vent is maintained; a higher efficiency and more freedom in positioning. gibbsy : so I would at minimum need an Av receiver + stereo amp to drive the R3, right? I think from your other posts you have a Rega Elicit-R, to be honest I am completely clueless about the amps, specifically for the R3s what is main deciding factor for the amps? How much power do the R3s require? Would the room correction form the AV receiver still work properly if it goes through the stereo amp? With its Class D digital amplifier built-in, the E9F produces an immense 170W. This low distortion amplifier provides the bass cone with a powerful, well-balanced sound for even the largest rooms. On the rear panel you'll find controls for volume, phase and frequency cut-off, plus the option of auto on/off. If you absolutely have to have streaming functionality built in to the amp I'd suggest the following for audition:
