Overall my first impressions are good, I’m looking forward to getting them connected and finding out how they sound. For the sound quality part of the review, I’m going to be listening to an album by an American artist called Caskey. Single Use Plastic When it comes to the feel, the Edifier WH950NB are very light and comfortable. I would wear these for full work shifts (6+ hours), and I never felt that they were weighing my head down. The cups have a soft foam pad that fully encompasses the ears. You won’t have to worry about using these for extended periods of time. Edifier WH950NB: Sound quality While the Dynamic mode is tuned for fun and harmonises well with modern music styles, the Classic mode aims for a more neutral reproduction. Accordingly, the low-frequency reproduction was leaner and had more punch in the upper bass range, even if the imaging reached further down. In contrast, the mid and lower bass range in Dynamic mode appeared more substantial, sounding richer but not too powerful, meaning bass-oriented productions were reproduced powerfully. Light in weight and well balanced on the head, the WH950NB proved to be extremely comfortable and stable and once the earpieces were adjusted to align the drivers with the ears, the best sound was obtained. The ear pads were very soft and moulded themselves to my ear profile and the padding on the headband was also very soft.
In my past experiences, Edifier are pretty accurate in their battery life claims so you don’t have to worry about being short changed. I’m pleased with the reduction in single use plastic, the tech industry is fairly damaging so any little steps companies make towards becoming more planet friendly are welcome. As I said further up, I’m going to listen to a southern hip-hop artist called Caskey to get a feel for how well the WH950NB’s perform. The overall profile was U shaped and largely neutral in character with a gentle recession in the midrange and a smooth, relaxed presentation. Detail was well rendered and soundstage wide and spacious. Via Bluetooth there was an increase in bass depth and a general attractive softness which encouraged extended listening. Bass

These headphones have Game Mode which allows for ultra low-latency audio. It’s perfect for people that want to connect to headphones to their gaming PC via Bluetooth and not suffer from any audio lag / latency. To put things on a more objective scale, I tested the headphones against the powerful Sony WH-1000XM4 using my go-to airplane drone and crowd-noise simulators through studio monitors. When A/B testing the two, it was clear the Sony pair had the edge at both ends of the spectrum. Against the airplane drone, it outdid the WH950NB both in the velocity of noise removed, and in the expanse of frequencies.

Starting off with the ANC, these headphones have three modes. If you don’t need aggressive noise cancelation, there’s the low noise cancelation mode. It will filter out a fair amount of the noise in the environment. It’s meant for more quiet places.The headphones offer some style touches, including a metallic shimmer to the top of the band and coper Edifier logos. That said, while they do a relatively convincing job emulating flagship earbuds, the faux leather along the exterior of the ear cups feels particularly faux in this case. I love a loud high end and they allow the high-hats and snares to really stand out in each song I listened to on the album.
If you’re planning on using these headphones for the long run, the Edifier WH950NB won’t have any issue getting you through. When I fully charge these headphones, I can go through days of work shifts, and casual listening before I need to reach for the charger. You can charge these headphones up before a long road trip or work shift, and you won’t need to worry about them dying on you. But, it’s getting really rather boring writing about the quality of Edifier’s tech. It’s all pretty much always spot on. You can cycle between three of the five ANC modes using the mode button on the right earcup. Since you can select which modes are cycled through using the Edifier app, there’s a level of customisation that ensures you’re able to access the modes you use most frequently with minimal fuss. This can often be a little hard to find, as the play/pause button and volume-up buttons are raised instead. I found my fingertip would find the larger of the two and glide over the volume-down button and find the mode button instead. But, I did get more used to this over time. For a strength test, I twisted the headband to see how much punishment they can take, I wasn’t able to leave any permanent damage, which is good, they’ll stand up to daily use without any problems. The finger loop on the case is a neat addition, initially I thought it was fairly pointless, but I did find myself reaching for the loop more often than not. The fabric material feels soft yet hard wearing and the colour doesn’t look as boring in real life as it does in pictures. Again, not a complaint but a compliment. The Edifier Connect app (available for Android and iOS) has a clean, easy-to-navigate interface, but we could do without the many distracting outbound links. The main screen shows an image of the product along with its remaining battery life. If you’re looking to dabble in some of the latest Bluetooth technology, then the WH950NB is worth considering. These headphones support Bluetooth 5.3 for fast transmission and a stable connection. You’ll also be able to stream audio using LDAC as long as you have a device that supports it. Battery Life
Elegant Looks, Overambitious Controls
If you're looking for a new pair of noise-cancelling headphones then the Edifier WH950NB is an excellent choice. The audio quality is great and while these aren't the cheapest headphones, they're also not as expensive as other brands in this category, especially when it comes to the best headphones– and these are so comfy they can be worn for long periods. (There are safety features to limit excessive use.) Bringing some of the greatest features from the Stax’s headphones in a more consumer-friendly product is a great feat that Edifier should take a bow for.
