I recently received an LG 27UL650-W, the 2019 successor to the highly regarded 27UK650. Since the UK series is fairly popular among 4K gaming monitors, particularly when it comes to console usage, I thought I would provide a detailed review of the UL650 and how, if at all, it differs from the UK series. For reference, I previously owned the 27UK600 (same panel as the UK650).

For a good HDR viewing experience, we recommend a monitor that has at least VESA’s HDR600 certification though these displays are, naturally, also more expensive. I think this is a good 4K monitor for console gaming, just don't expect much from the HDR. Having said that, if you can find the UK series for significantly cheaper, I would recommend that over the UL series since its basically a refresh. The operating humidity shows the acceptable level of humidity, in which the display will function flawlessly. It sets a lower and an upper humidity level for safe operation and is measured in percentage.

There are various panel technologies. Each has its own specific features - viewing angles, color reproduction, response time, brightness/contrast, production cost, etc. The image quality depends directly on the type of the display panel used. bugNeah, HDR is about supporting a larger luminance range. You can't physically do that, if you're constrained to a limited color space to begin with. The storage temperature shows the range from a minimum to a maximum temperature, within which storing of the display is considered to be safe. The LG 27UK650 has a fairly ergonomic stand with up to 110mm height adjustment, -5°/15° tilt, 90° pivot, and 100x100mm VESA mount compatibility. You cannot swivel the screen to the left/right. The dynamic contrast shows the ratio between the brightest and the darkest color, which the display can reproduce over time, for example, in the course of playing a video.

This technology removes all screen tearing and stuttering with minimal input lag penalty (~1ms) within the VRR range. Overall, enabling HDR for compatible content might make some video games (mostly X1X and PS4 Pro console games) or movies look a bit better, but most of the time you will just get either oversaturated or washed out colors. The 27UK650-W is an interesting monitor, marrying a 27", 16:9 4K (3840 x 2160) IPS panel with HDR 10 support. The static contrast ratio of 1000:1 means the monitor has a dynamic contrast of 5,000,000:1 (not that that particular spec matters much). The maximum brightness, however, leaves much to be desired on a HDR-enabled monitor: the LG 27UK650-W only manage to deliver 350 cd/m² brightness, which is lower than even the lowest HDR standard AMD considers as being HDR capable (a minimum brightness of 400 cd/m² is required for that). The sRGB 99% Color Gamut coverage is good, however, if not that rare a feature nowadays.
