About this deal

MJK Smith’s mother’s name is unknown at this time and his father’s name is under review. We will continue to update information on MJK Smith’s parents. I had great success during my Oxford University period. I scored a hundred in each of the three Varsity matches (in 1954, '55 and '56) - breaking a record held by the Nawab of Pataudi Sr since 1931. p20, Ian Wooldridge, What have we here? The eccentric 'Pom', Benson and Hedges Test Series Official Book 1986–87 The Clashes for the Ashes, Playbill Sport Publication, 1986 I was fortunate to play with and under him. He was a fantastic player for both the Bears and England. He Became my Chairman when I was CEO and was always very supportive; we were a fantastic partnership together and helped the Bears win 11 trophies in 12 years.

He agreed, led the team to victory in the next game, at Old Trafford, and the path to the most remarkable championship triumph ever recorded by any county was underway. Having retired from the First Class game in 1975, MJK would go on to another senior role as the club, becoming Chairman between 1991 and 2003, and was an ICC match referee ICC match referee between 1991 and 1996. He also would support the ECB as Tour Manager for several England series overseas.

MJK Smith 1957-1967

The ACS has issued a Diversity and Equality Statement setting out clearly its objective of seeking to appeal to people with an interest in every form of the game. Chinese Zodiac: MJK Smith was born in the Year of the Rabbit. People born under this sign are honest, observant and hardworking. They seldom rely on other people in daily life, which can make them impatient when dealing with others.

M.J.K. Smith was a prolific batsman and highly popular captain of England in the mid-1960s. On his retirement Wisden 1976, published this career assessment. He later became an ICC match referee and officiated in four Tests between 1991 and 1993 and 17 ODIs between 1991 and 1996. You can read more about the formation and earlier years of the ACS, and about the individuals whose hugely-valued efforts set us on our current path, in Twenty-One Years of the ACS, by our late President, Richard Streeton. 27 February 2023

Jim Troughton 2011-2014

Tony Webb, who masterminded the ACS’s Minor Counties Match Scores project from 1999 to 2011, died on 22 February. Julian Lawton Smith, who succeeded him as editor on the project, pays tribute to a phenomenal researcher. A further important factor is that MJK managed to miss most of the more interesting Tests that were played during “his” era. The controversial 1958/59 Ashes series came too soon , and save one Test in which he scored just a single he was out of favour for the next three Ashes series, as well as the visit of Frank Worrell’s 1963 West Indians. We are pleased to announce that, at a meeting of the ACS General Committee on 12 December, we co-opted Peter Griffiths to join our ranks.
