About this deal

Category 1 lenses let in 43 to 80 per cent of light. They are regularly coloured lenses, such as bright yellow, that aim to increase contrast on cloudy days. The Tifosi Alliant Light Night Fototec sunglasses are well vented and well made, with photochromic lenses that make them suitable for a very broad range of conditions. The long, curved arms mean they don't sit comfortably with every helmet, but as long as they work with yours, these are a solid choice for all-day riding. The nose and temple grips keep them securely in place, no matter how lumpy the landscape I’ve been running and riding over became, and for the most part they’ve been pretty comfortable to wear for reasonably long periods of time – the hydrophilic nose grips seem to pinch slightly after while, but this can be relieved by lifting the glasses momentarily. These two gentlemen could not be any more accommodating if they tried, quality service that is a rare find in today’s crazy world, I can not recommend this company enough! ULTRA LIGHT FRAME ➤ Light only 26 grams and durable Grilamid TR90. Features integrated hinge which never pulls hair, hydrophilic nose pads for increased gripping, and Tifosi Glide technology allows the frame to slide on comfortably and provide a no-slip fit

Lens colors: New Blue / Smoke Yellow / Smoke Red / Smoke Yellow / Smoke Bright Blue / Smoke / Brown / Clear / Smoke The bike is a Christmas present and so will not see any use for about 5 weeks as we are in November now. They do have some downsides, however, including the frustrating characteristic that they can make it hard to see digital screens and instrument read-outs at certain angles. Like buying clothing or footwear, finding the right pair of sunglasses is a hugely personal choice. Polarized sunglasses for sailors: 9 pairs testedThe Tifosi Swank Single Lens Sunglasess are genuinely useful on the bike, but also don't look out of place mooching down to the pub or coffee shop.

We researched other brands and found that they were appalling quality straight out of the box and often more expensive too. These Tifosi Slice Fototec Light Night Lens sunglasses offer excellent all-round visibility thanks to their frameless design, and the tint range of the photochromatic lens covers the majority of riding conditions even into the darkness. The wind can whip around the sides a bit, though, which won't please hayfever sufferers or those with sensitive eyes. The only real niggle I have with the glasses concerns their arms, which are quite long and curved downwards. I've got quite a big head, but even so the arms extend at least a couple of centimetres past the point where they rest on my ears. Generally, this wasn't a problem, but it did mean that they wouldn't sit well with some helmets. I tried them with three helmets that I currently have around the house. They were entirely fine with a Livall helmet I was testing, but they occasionally got nudged by my Ekoï helmet, and really didn't get on all that well with my main helmet, which is a Kask Infinity. Here, the long arms ran foul of the plastic cage that grips the head and this often led to the glasses being pushed forward off my nose. So if you wear a helmet that wraps close behind your ears, just be aware that you might have a similar issue. Most sailors will opt for polarized sunglasses. If you haven’t tried them before and don’t know what the fuss is about, ask to try someone else’s next time you’re out on the water. Tip your head on one side to see what things look like with dark glasses, then look normally to see how much additional glare the polarization cuts out and you’ll be amazed. Extremely comfortable to wear for long periods, these would be great everyday sunglasses that also have surprisingly good grip. A polarization score of 74.6% nudges these ahead of the rest, although this is on slightly higher transmission of 13.8%. These wraparound sports sunglasses are a different animal to the other Tifosi shades we tested, and have a higher price tag to reflect this, though still pretty reasonable. Half-lens frames mean that lenses can be swapped for different conditions, and vents prevent sweat up on hot days. At a budget price point, you aren't going to get the best optics in terms of contrast and glare reduction. The kind of lenses that vividly enhance every detail on your ride in all light conditions cost a lot of money.

Given the quality – and that they're currently available considerably below RRP – it's not hard to recommend the Tifosis for all-day riding. Verdict Suitability: Trail activities ranging from hiking to biking at sea level and in lower hills, plus general beach and bar wear LENS TECHNOLOGY ➤ Shatterproof polycarbonate lenses with 100% UVA / UVB protection from harmful UV Rays These are a reasonable pair of shades at a reasonable price, and will serve well on and off the water, but they don’t reach the standards of the best glasses in this test. With hundreds of styles of polarized sunglasses for sailors out there, and many brands, there’s no shortage of choice. Not all are created equal, however, and if you’re going to be spending long hours on the water, then having shades that stay on your head, protect your peripheral vision, and cut out direct light and reflected glare is essential.
