Mutiple clipping options and a 3 band EQ make this pedal extremelt versatile. It also has a built-in boost. Overall, choosing an electric guitar with a tonewood body will get you the best results in terms of playability and sound. If you want to experiment with a new style of guitar, you can have a lot of fun with an acrylic mode l. Can Lucite Be Used for Guitars? If you asked most guitarists whether they’d heard of acrylic-bodied guitars, you’d probably receive a look of confusion. These instruments have somewhat of an underground following amongst musicians.

That’s not what I’m talking about, although it’s worth looking into if you’re looking for something specific/different.High-end acrylic guitars have been made by Ampeg, under the Dan Armstrong signature range. These guitars were more expensive than many tonewood-based guitars but weren’t particularly successful in terms of sales. What Does an Acrylic Guitar Body Sound Like? Put all remaining screws in to make sure they fit right. You can tighten them once you’ve confirmed they’re all sitting in the right holes. The Pettyjohn Chime was made to "sweeten your signal with the touch sensitivity of vintage English amps on the edge of break up." There are some guitars that exist where the day after you buy them, you know you've made a mistake. I'm going to list 5 of them below.

It’s hard to think of a situation in which you won’t need a bit of transparent boost, and these pedals span a wide range of options and directions for your tone. As guitarists, it’s important that we feel comfortable enough when wearing our instruments. We may need to play for long sessions which could last for hours when performing live. A Classic Axe That Screams Speed, Fury, And Expression Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards is known to have experimented with a clear, acrylic-bodied guitar many decades ago, but there aren’t many examples of other notable musicians choosing them over wooden-bodied axes.

Edge Treatments

If you’re used to playing guitars with wooden bodies and you decide to suddenly switch to an acrylic-bodied electric guitar, you might be in for a few surprises. Here are some things to consider when choosing between wood vs. plastic materials for electric guitar bodies. Why Tonewoods Are The Best Option Dan's quest for originality certainly created a distinctive-looking instrument, but he also wanted to exploit what he saw as the advantages of the non-standard body material. In Beat Instrumental in '73, he explained how he'd searched for a rigid material, based on the idea that rigid steel guitars sustained well. He wanted something very hard, and concluded that wood varied too much. Some would argue that see-through guitars are not worth buying. Ultimately, whether or not you agree will depend on your preferences and experiences playing these custom-designed instruments.

Electro-Harmonix (EHX) does not market their Crayon as a transparent overdrive pedal per se, but the unit’s touted “full range” of EQ and drive controls make it possible to dial in a very transparent gain. EHX even markets the Crayon as an “alternative to customary mid-focused overdrive pedals” like Tube Screamers. This unit is a nice introduction to the magic of transparency, and you can get it at less than half the price of most other units listed here. You can set your transparent drive at Low Peak, which is more of a Fender-esque clean boost, or High Peak, a more drive-oriented Vox or Marshall sound. Also, version 2 of the OCD features a switch allowing you to choose from True Bypass, a standard for most boutique pedals today, or Fulltone’s proprietary Enhanced Bypass, which keeps a natural warmth going through your signal chain even when the pedal is switched off. If you want a solid foundation of transparent overdrive, but with options for higher-gain settings, both the JHS Morning Glory and Wampler Euphoria function as multiple pedals in one. The clarity of the material allows you to see all of the inner workings of the electric guitar which are usually not visible with a wood-bodied model, and its transparency causes it to react with lights in interesting ways.

Who Is It For?

Due to the hardness of the plastic body material, it can produce a sound that is quite thin and “tinny”, which is especially noticeable in the upper midrange and treble frequencies. This sound can become overly bright in some cases. When you choose a guitar, it’s advisable to consider three key aspects – the sound it produces, the way it feels, and its physical appearance.
