About this deal

The matching turntable finished in gloss white is made for Triangle by Pro-Ject, but branded as a Triangle product. The Elara is said to have a power output of 50-watts and a frequency response of 56-20,000 Hz measured at one metre +/-3dB. Once again, the French company Triangle Electroacoustique dedicates itself to an active loudspeaker system that is a full-fledged hi-fi system in itself, with the new Triangle AIO TWIN Speakers. Neat, because the amplifiers are built into the Elara speakers. And neat because you can erase the price of decent speaker cables from your budget. You won’t need them. A close squiz reveals it has a high standard of finish and that it will play 33 and 45 rpm records.

The Titus also delivered more treble detail and dug deeper in the bass. What both Elara and Titus do have in common is an immediacy and ability to time, that’s complimentary to the music played through them. Triangle supplies a remote control but provides a volume knob on the rear of the right speaker. This knob also works as an input selector switch but one that must be pressed to move through the inputs. Which raises the question: what would we have paid to enjoy the convenience of Bluetooth in the 70s? Plenty, allow me to assure you.

What We Dig

The new Triangle AIO TWIN speakers offer full flexibility as soon as they are integrated into the network, which can be done either via cable or the integrated WiFi module according to IEEE 802.11n. And … my old system would be much more expensive if its buying price were translated into today’s money. They're more interested in flagging the subtle, aching inflections of his delivery, and the textures and low-level dynamics of instruments, than the power behind them. Verdict Moving 500 miles south, I streamed the third version of the titular composition on Marseille, by Ahmad Jamal (24/96 FLAC, Jazz Village/Qobuz), which features the French singer-songwriter Mina Agossi. The Triangles reproduced Agossi’s languid soprano with no hint of coloration or spittiness. When she sings in French, I could clearly appreciate her Gallic consonants, such as the rolled r’s and extended s’s in such words as caresse and tristesse.

The Elara’s are very compact and measure 291mm high, 165mm wide and 291mm deep. The right speaker with the amplifier and electronics weighs 5.05kgs, and the left speaker is 4.5kgs. With the help of the app, as well as the Linkplay technology, it is also possible to realise multi-room audio streaming. Streaming can be controlled directly via the app in each individual room, the volume can be adjusted, the sound can be optimised via the sound control or different speakers can be connected with each other. Triangle’s LN01A active HiFi speakers exemplify the benefits of clever design. With built-in amplification, they offer a clean and straightforward setup, eliminating the clutter of additional equipment and cables. Their elegant design and versatile connectivity options, including phono stage support, cater to vinyl audio enthusiasts, especially those who have ‘lapsed’.Above the lowest notes, the basses had a nice growly breathiness, as did the cellos. The nostalgic waltz theme sounded delectable as played on Les Siècles’ period violins, their gut strings producing a beautifully sweet tone. I also loved the way the Elaras conveyed the clear, ringing tone of the small-bore brasses. The LN01A speakers don’t disappoint in the sound department, delivering a bold and engaging performance regardless of the audio source. When streaming via Bluetooth, the speakers impress with their solid and upfront character. Listening to some old school ‘No Doubt’, the FX laden electric guitar riffs come alive, and the drum strikes hit with impactful precision. The speakers effortlessly handle the building layers of instrumentation, providing controlled pace and rhythmic accuracy. Although the treble might be slightly pronounced in an open setting, placing them closer to a wall balances the sound, while their bass prowess adds a surprising low-end punch for their size. No matter how rose coloured my audio memories, sound-wise the Triangle gear stomps all over what I used to begin my audio journey. The speakers connect with an accompanying speaker cable, and can stand on a shelf, on the bookshelf, or on a pair of stands. Everything can be controlled with the provided remote control, which isn’t exactly overflowing with quality, but it works. (Photo: Manufacturer) Drivers built into the Elara are a 25mm silk dome tweeter crossing over to a 135mm woofer that has a treated paper cone. The tweeter uses a Neodymium magnet.

The fabric Bond is used, which looks particularly elegant, is very durable and will be a real feast for the eyes for years to come. There is another vital set of inputs. These are for the Triangle turntable. But they can also be switched to a line level input using a slider.

Works with every vinyl turntable

While the soundstage wasn’t especially deep, it was wide and open, convincingly evoking La Philharmonie de Paris, where this performance was recorded in November 2019. Dynamics scaled with impressive ease for a small, two-way, 50Wpc powered speaker. However, the loudest sections sounded slightly congested; and when I cranked up the volume, a little hardness crept in during loud passages. Otherwise, the little powered Triangles were beautifully transparent, conveying all the magic of this magical score.
