About this deal

Don’t rush to apply. Let the grass tell you when which is generally when you start mowing regularly. Quite often in late winter or very early spring, you notice the grass finally starting to grow and so you give it a cut. It may be another 3 to 4 weeks before you mow again because it’s still cool and growth is slow. Once you get into a rhythm of regular mowing at least every 7-10 days (perhaps the fourth cut of spring) then is the time to feed. Summer Lawn Feed Our fertilisers and weed control products are also designed mixes for specific solutions, whether feeding your lawn in Spring, preparing the soil before seeding, or controlling selective weeds or moss. Additional to our own branded range, we offer lawn care products from a variety of leading brands including Round Up, Enforcer, Sapphire and MMC Pro. Out of the two I recommend you go with granules. They are much easier to judge in terms of application and coverage and to ensure you don’t overlap at any point. For a nonprofessional it’s difficult to get a consistent spread across the lawn using liquid. If our Soluble Fertiliser or Green-up Ferrous Sulphate is used then the lawn is safe once dry. This would take just a few hours in the warmer months. Ferrous sulphate may stain feet within the first 24 hours of application.

Apply our spring/summer fertiliser to the lawn - these fertilisers can help reduce the risk of diseases such as Red Thread With weed killer we refer you to the manufacturer’s recommendations, which may be similar to our recommendations for applying Soluble Fertiliser or Green-up Ferrous Sulphate. That is to allow 3 mowings before allowing grazing/foraging pets on the lawn. Ferrous sulphate may stain feet within the first 24 hours of application. Now your lawn is susceptible to heat, drought (maybe not for us in the UK), excessive use and insects so helping it out with a feeding will really do it some good. You’ll normally apply the fertiliser about 10 to 14 weeks after the spring feeding, so this will be between June and July. Flexible - Three or more Feeds per Annum: For the keen gardener or lawn enthusiast, you can exert much more control over the lawn by using 3 month slow release fertilisers and liquid fertiliser. Use the appropriate Spring & Summer feed in spring, and in summer, if conditions warrant it, either repeat the application or use Solugreen liquid feed every 4 to 6 weeks. Finish the year with an Autumn feed. BEST FOR THE UK CLIMATE – A1 Lawn ultimate fertilisers are freshly produced in the UK, professional grade & designed to work with the British weather. This ensures fast germination & delivers a strong & healthy lawn every year. Use March, April, May, June, July & August. Apply when showers are predicted or water in well.

ADDED NUTRIENTS - The added iron helps to ‘green up’ your lawn. The magnesium makes photosynthesis more efficient, turning more sunlight to energy & making the grass more green and lush. The seaweed adds essential minerals & breaks down the soil which helps to release more nutrient content. Many fertilisers work on a slow release basis, however these do vary from one fertiliser to another. Some gardeners may prefer to fertilise only once during the growing season in spring, using a very slow release fertiliser. However, this is not always the best option. It is recommended that you fertilise your lawn around 4 times per year, as mentioned above, as this gives you a greater control over the amount of nutrients delivered to your lawn according to its health and weather conditions. You will normally apply your summer fertiliser between 10 to 14 weeks after the spring treatment. If the weather is dry then withhold fertiliser. It is not going to start working without moisture and though Lawnsmith® Fertilisers have little scorch potential, the salt content can add to already stressful conditions. If conditions suddenly change half way through the summer you can then feed the grass with a granular or liquid fertiliser . Autumn Lawn Feed Identify the type of grass plants in your lawn as some require more nutrients (ryegrass) and some less nutrients (fescues). Some fertiliser elements, normally iron and potassium, actually harden the grass (sometimes called winterizing) and help protect the delicate grass membranes from the cold and occasional winter diseases. Therefore, all autumn and winter fertilisers should contain higher proportions of one or both for a reliable green winter lawn.

For existing lawns when over seeding use one of our seasonal fertilisers - the 'sandy soil' variety in spring and summer will give you a better nutrient balance even if you have clay soil. You can use 'starter' or a 'seasonal fertiliser' for patching small areas. For new lawnsThis is a very high quality fertiliser with a specialised blend of compounds and minerals to help give your lawn all the nutrients it needs during the growing season. For weed killer we suggest you use one of our liquid products as the manufacturer’s recommendations are that once dry they are safe. Lawnsmith® lawn fertilisers are blended to give the lawn the correct amount of nutrients over a period of time. The following programmes progressively increase the fertility levels:
