About this deal

By adopting a sloth, you will be donating to the Sloth Conservation Foundation. Affectionately known as SloCo, this British-registered charity is dedicated to saving sloths in the wild, by implementing lasting solutions through research and conservation initiatives in countries such as Costa Rica, where the natural tree canopy habitat of the sloth is constantly under threat from development and deforestation. Known for being slow movers (up to 1.6km per hour!) and taking their time, the Sloth has grown to be extremely popular with visitors to our wildlife park. As a nocturnal species the Sloth sleeps throughout the day and eats at night and can live for over 30 years! In fact, one of our very own resident sloths, Mr. Jingles, is 29 – that’s older than many of our park guests! Help us to safeguard a future for these amazing animals by adopting a sloth for yourself, a friend or family member today! 100% of all proceeds from our adopt a sloth program go towards supporting our sloth conservation programs. Do you know an animal aficionado who loves their sleep, hanging out in random places and is so slow that you wonder if they are moving at all? Their animal spirit must be a sloth, which just so happens to be one of the cutest animals on the planet. With this animal adoption, you are complimenting the recipient as well as giving them one of the most thoughtful gifts you can give to any animal lover. Sponsorships apply to the species rather than individual animals. This is because some of our animals may move to other zoos as part of breeding programmes. If your sponsored species moves, we will advise you and you will be given the opportunity to transfer your sponsorship to another species.

Our sloths are called Tuppee and Lightcap and you can find them at Folly Farm in our Tropical Trails exhibit. Partial to a nice bit of asparagus every now and again you’ll more than likely spot Tuppee curled in a ball and catching ‘forty winks!’. Sid joined us from Sandwich Wildlife Park in March 2021 after it closed, and he is an older boy who likes to take things slow… even for a sloth. Whilst Noco joined us at the end of 2022. She was born in spring 2021 at Bristol Zoo and moved to WWP after they also closed. We have been thrilled to give these loveable characters a home here with us and to see how adored they are by our visitors. The more you know… We are home to a pair of Hoffmann’s sloth, Hadar and Roxy. Did you know that sloths actually have very poor eyesight and hearing? They rely almost entirely on their senses of touch and smell to find food. We have two sloth enclosures at the Zoo and your experience may take place in either of these depending on which sloths are available on the day.

This species inhabits the rainforests of Brazil, Colombia, Ecuador, French Guiana, Peru, Guyana, Suriname & Venezuela. Age The IUCN Red List classes them as least concern. However, they do face a wide variety of risks (caused by humans), which include deforestation and death/ injury from vehicles with many major roads now passing through many parts of their range. Interesting Facts They are unique in the animal world in that they do spend most of their lives upside down. They eat, sleep and even give birth upside down and because of this, their internal organs have actually re-positioned over a period of time. Please be aware that the Sloth encounter takes place in enclosures which can only be accessed via steps.

Sloths do not pair for life and spend much of their time apart. However, after mating they go through a gestation of around 6 months. Generally they will give birth to a single baby. They get their name from the two large claws on their forelimbs. These can grow up to 7.5cm in length. The claws have a super strong grip and some sloth have been known to remain hanging from the trees long after death! These animals do not often go to the toilet, with food taking anything from 6 to 21 days to pass through their digestive system. The Linnaeus Two Toed Sloth During Your Day Out in KentSponsoring a sloth at Newquay Zoo will make a real contribution to the daily care of our sloths and wildlife conservation work across the world. Confucius said: 'It does not matter how slowly you go, as long as you don't stop'. This could be the mantra of the sloth. Even the word 'sloth' sounds as slow and lethargic as it's meaning doesn't it? But in reality sloths aren't lazy - just slow. And this slowness works as a very effective defence mechanism, as it's believed sloths move unnoticed by their predators! Two-toed sloths are slow moving, peaceful creatures and can be found in the forests of South America.
