About this deal

The journey from educational mind-expanders to dinner party conversation-starters arguably began many decades ago when comedians began to poke fun at the earnestness of the stout little tugbooks that had pride of place in homes and classrooms across the UK. Even the prat-falling Frank Spencer of the 70s TV sitcom Some Mothers Do ‘Ave ‘Em, had a book called Learn to Fly with Ladybird. But it was the Key Words Reading Scheme, which brought siblings Peter and Jane to primary schools in the 1960s, that opened the floodgates to the new retro spoofs – and it wasn’t the idea of Ladybird’s own publisher, Penguin Random House, but of an artist provocateur, Miriam Elia. A small random road test would seem to bear out his optimism. Polly, an artist and former primary teacher, had given Hazeley and Morris’s How It Works: The Wife to her daughter for Christmas, while her partner received The Ladybird Book of the Meeting from a friend. She recalls using Ladybird books in her London classroom. “We were still buying On Volcanos in the 1990s: it was about finding books for kids who wanted to learn – often boys – which could act as a stepping stone to other books.”

Kelly has had to come to terms with the idea that though they spent half their lives together, Gareth was not really paying attention for most of it.' They present the podcast Rule of Three ( Guardian Guide Best 50 Podcasts 2018 - is that an award?) and divide their time between their office, where they keep their awards, and an award-winning pub. It’s a practical text, using various scenarios to illustrate each point. These insights can’t be learned in a classroom. They’re the culmination of extensive experience in real world environments over many years. THE PERFECT GIFT for anyone who likes a glass of red. And a double gin. And a vodka shot. And a flaming tequila. And a candy floss caipirinha . . . and a small Bahama Mama. These great clothes make me look really interesting,' thinks Chris as he sits down at the piano to practise another slow, sad song that gets slightly louder at the end.'Coldplay's singer Chris Martin has spent weeks working with an important stylist. They have come up with an exciting look for the band's new tour. Penguin Random House will release nine new titles in itsLadybird Books for Grown-Ups series for this autumn, including How it Works: The Studentand The Ladybird Book of the Meeting. This book explores 'The Meeting'. Those never ending sessions at work where you all sit round a table, maybe on a regular basis, listening to someone go on about something that actually isnt really important. While still fundamentally good-natured and good-humored, these little mini-observations and pronouncements, which are teamed up especially well with the vintage drawings, strike a chord more often than not. Because each and every word is chosen with care, and because timing and tone is superb, this is one volume that particularly lends itself to rereading. A very nice effort. At a minimum, this book should be on the desk of every chief executive or senior manager of every business in the world. It’s possibly one of the greatest books ever written about business, delving into the complex dynamics of meetings in the workplace, including individual and group psychology, the influence on productivity and how meetings effect the bottom line.

As Brexit reaches its final stretch, find a way to laugh through the pain and or celebrate the end with Ladybird's hilarious and essential guide, The Story of Brexit.

Whilst some of the jokes here are not dissimilar to the ones you may find on Facebook memes in groups about work, there are some unexpected gems here. The jokes about the cupboard and the cement were amusing in their surprise, being slightly out of place amongst some of the more standard jokes, but there are other lines that caught me by surprise. So the next guide we need is one on how to dodge boring meetings without being noticed. Funny and entertaining as usual. Although read in about ten minutes this was thereby granted more attention than many gifts presented to my husband over the years. Learn all about the different kinds of meetings - brainstorms, catch-ups, face-to-face, virtual, unattended - and how to avoid them completely . . .

And by the time they get home, Jonathan's father might have finished being racist and fallen asleep in his liquorice allsorts.' There is a pop disco at the community centre tonight, but the word 'community' brings Davey out in a cold sweat. The large clear script, the careful choice of words, the frequent repetition and the thoughtful matching of text with pictures all enable grown-ups to think they have taught themselves to cope. But he is keener on the Penguin Experts. “I think they’re an entirely different beast. They look like great access points to complex subjects from some brilliant writers.” It has been a fabulously buoyant bubble but how long can it last, and what impact is it having on the one of the most venerable brands in children’s publishing?Jason Hazeley & Joel Morris are the award-winning authors of the bestselling Ladybird Books For Grown-Ups series. Penguin Michael Joseph’s editorial director Rowland White said: "The overwhelming reaction to last year’s brilliant Ladybird Books for Grown-Ups was extraordinary and heart-warming – a real testament to the love and care that Jason and Joel put into writing them. It’s clear, with this new range of titles, that their affection and enthusiasm for Ladybird remains undimmed. We’ll be laughing like drains all over again." Furthermore, it doesn’t just look at these topics from a standard business point of view. It also includes these dynamics for remote workers participating in meetings by conference calls, meetings for self-employed people and the effect on profit and loss when people are unable to attend a meeting for any reason. It even includes this analysis for other organisations with a captivating case study about The Worshipful Company of Victorian Time Travellers. As with all the books in this series we are given simple explanations about the topic with pictures from childhood Ladybird books and a simple but highly amusing explanation.
