Clare Holman played Sue Tutt in "Ring Out Your Dead" (2002), Rose Southerly in "Country Matters" (2006) and Fiona Beauvoisin in "The Miniature Murders" (2019).

Death 5: Evelyn dies in Woody's arms. Evelyn left Woody a letter. Clarice reads it to him. Evelyn wishes Woody to be as happy as he can be with the rest of the time he has left. Doctor Kate Wilding ( Tamzin Malleson) (series 14–17)—Dr George Bullard's replacement as resident pathologist. Her confident, competent, no-nonsense approach has earned the detectives' respect. She is unmarried and is also a professor. Her parents, Giles and Laura, have appeared in one episode, "The Flying Club". [4] In the series 18 opener, "Habeas Corpus", Wilding has left Midsomer to take up a professorship in Brighton. She is briefly seen on-screen in a photo with Ben Jones, who had previously relocated to Brighton. Detective Constable Gail Stephens ( Kirsty Dillon) (series 10–13)—a colleague of Tom Barnaby and DS Jones, who often helps them in their cases, sometimes providing valuable insight. Gail was transferred to Midsomer from Binwell. Gail is cheery but emotional, breaking down in tears when, after initially serving as a uniformed woman police constable, she was appointed as a plain-clothed CID detective. Throughout Gail's appearances, it is implied that she is on the point of having an affair with Sgt Jones, but when it came to the crunch he decided that he did not want to get too heavily involved with a colleague, after which Gail effectively snubbed him. Strangely, Gail has not been seen since "Fit For Murder". In fact, my only real problem, despite the solution actually being pretty ingenious, is the ending being written in a way that seemed to try too hard to make one feel sorry for someone who killed so many people. Giving the nature of the crimes, it did fail to do that. This episode was good until the end. One murderer is a married female who takes pills to kill herself. She is responsible for the death of many. They play sad music and people are crying. Her husband says "she could be pretty tough at times but underneath she is the gentlest person you could ever meet." Yeah right! Detective Sergeant Charlie Nelson ( Gwilym Lee) (series 16–18)—When Jones was promoted, he was replaced by DS Charlie Nelson. Nelson was the first Sergeant to not serve alongside Tom Barnaby. He was a lodger at Kate's house. Nelson left the series after season 18.

Suzanna Chambers - Shot in the chest with a shotgun by Julia Gooders while trying to kill her with a knife after Suzanna received a phone call sounding like Julia, threatening to expose her and Julia received a phone call saying "You are next! I'm coming to get you!" sounding like Mr. Punch. Karl and Gregory were very close. Gregory was the only one he could trust with the new will. Suzanna, Kenneth and Tristan knew Gregory would have the will on him. So they decided to murder him. Suzanna also tried to kill Evelyn and Clarice. Barnaby and Troy go to talk to Tristan. He tells them that Suzanna called him about Julia being upset and he told Suzanna to silence her. Tristan says they should have got away with Gregory's murder but when disposing of the body parts, he saw Colin Salter and Florence in the woods. The bag must have split. He didn't realize the hand had dropped out. Then they decided to implicate Annie. Tristan reaches under his pillow and pulls out the new will. It was his insurance. He thought if Suzanna could murder one husband, she might just be tempted to murder another. It also boasts the customary comic subplot involving mushroom expert Colin Slater (Roger Frost) and his unusual relationship with his housekeeper, but it’s well integrated into the plot – Colin is a comic character who contributes a lot. And that’s really the key to what makes ‘Destroying Angel’ work – not a scene is wasted, or fails to add something to the mystery. On a rewatch, I’m impressed with quite how clever it is. Not just in the way the mystery resolves – this is perhaps one of the more involved cases in the show’s history, but still possible to work out and understand – but in the way it subtly introduces key players and clues without making a big deal of them. The show got less good at this over time (the only exception is ‘Murder of Innocence’, featuring one of the best rug-pulls in Midsomer history), but ‘Destroying Angel’ gets it perfect. Kudos to David Hoskins in his first script for the series. VKK Birgitte Poulsen ( Ann Eleonora Jørgensen) appears in "The Killings of Copenhagen" and "Death of the Small Coppers". Evelyn Pope and husband Woody Pope arrive. They greet DCI Tom Barnaby& Joyce Barnaby. Joyce is taking over the Croquet Stall in the Village Fete from Woody. "Mr. Punch still keeping folks on the straight and narrow?" Barnaby asks Evelyn. Julia Gooders& Kenneth Gooders arrive. He stays in the car listening to a sports broadcast. Denise Daly arrives with flowers and is told to go away by Suzanna. "If you'd done your job properly, Karl would still be with us."In "Destroying Angel," DCI Barnaby and Sgt. Troy are called to a Midsomer village to investigate the murder of Gregory Chambers, killed in the woods while out looking at specimens of mushrooms. Joyce Barnaby ( Jane Wymark) (series 1–13)—DCI Tom Barnaby's long-suffering wife. She is tolerant of her husband, despite his being a workaholic who spent their honeymoon solving the case of the " Pimlico Poisoner", which suggests that they met in London. Joyce is an easy-going and friendly woman who likes to be involved in community activities. She has long possessed a desire to move out of their Causton home and into one of the picturesque Midsomer villages—only to be put off by the grisly murders that occur there. She's known to her family as an experimental, but not always successful, cook. Thus, Tom is often seen taking advantage of every opportunity to dine out. She married Tom in 1973 and their only child, Cully, was conceived on their honeymoon. Her parents are Muriel and Douglas. Elizabeth Spriggs and Richard Cant appeared in the pilot episode ("The Killings at Badger's Drift"), as mother and son Iris and Dennis Rainbird; they appeared again in "Dead Letters", this time as Iris' sister Ursula Gooding and her son Alistair. Meanwhile, the script is smart, thought-provoking and suitably grim, the humour also being a breath of fresh air. Nothing felt inconsequential, everything had a point, everything intrigued and it was explained and cleared up well. Evelyn Pope admits she is the person responsible for the Murders of Tristan, Kenneth and Suzanna. Shortly after, she dies in Woody's arms. Her time had come and she wants Woody to be as happy as he can be with the rest of the time he has left.

Sarah Barnaby ( Fiona Dolman) (series 14–present)—John Barnaby's wife is the headmistress of a local secondary school. As she has a full-time career of her own (unlike Joyce), she does not figure as much in her husband's cases; and they don't have any children (until the end of the sixteenth series), although you may consider Sykes, their dog, as their child. They have a loving marriage and celebrated their fifteen-year anniversary in "Schooled for murder". Throughout the sixteenth series Sarah is pregnant and in the last episode of the series she gives birth to their first child, a daughter, called Betty. Destroying Angel is the second episode of the fourth series of Midsomer Murders and first aired 26th August 2001. Tristan Goodfellow - Consumed a poisonous type of mushrooms, Destroying Angel, which were placed for him to cook instead of regular mushrooms. This was carried out by Ben the gardener at Evelyn's instruction. Peter Eyre played Leonard Pike in “Strangler’s Wood” (1999) and Headley Madrigal in “Picture of Innocence” (2007). Evelyn Pope is a character appearing in the episode Destroying Angel of the ITV crime drama Midsomer Murders.

Barnaby and Troy come by the Tyson home and find a bloody chair leg. Tyson walks into the kitchen with blood running down his head. The kitchen is destroyed. He tells them his daughter went wild. She broke the chair over his head. He tells them that Annie is "up the duff" with Gregory. Four months pregnant. But he didn't kill Gregory. Tyson tells Barnaby that he saw Colin Salter in the woods. Colin didn't like Gregory for collecting all them wild mushrooms. "Denuding the woods," Colin said. Barnaby and Troy go to Colin's house and he comes to the door naked wearing an apron. He asks them to make an appointment.

The following actors and actresses who appeared in this episode have also appeared in the following episodes At the reading of the will, Kenneth Gooders decides to start even though Gregory Chambers has not arrived.I have one flaw with this episode. Even though the ending is very well acted and written- the solution to this murder mystery is a great one. The fact that we should care about Evelyn Pope as a murderess I just could not get behind. She has done the deed in such disturbing manner, which I can not sympathize with.
