Unlike standard EVA foam or even rubber-blend materials like the Nike React, the New Balance Fuelcell foam did not stiffen in the cold and retained its cushioned bounciness. All 3 versions of the Rebel have a midsole geometry which pushes your foot onto the medial side during transitions so with the Rebel v2, I noticed a lot of wear on the rearfoot medial side, especially in the area not covered with rubber. The Rebel v2’s midsole is highly compressible which makes it one of the softest shoes I’ve tested all year. It doesn’t have a lot of cushioning depth compared to a 1080v11 or a Clifton 7 but the foam feels more squishy. PROS AND CONS

The tongue is flat, wide and not gusseted. There is some downward tongue slide during runs but no lateral tongue slide. It has small holes punched into it to increase air flow and cool your foot down.
