About this deal

Advanced features include ring-type ultrasonic autofocus. Like the similar system fitted in the Nikon Nikkor AF-S VR 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED, it's fast, ultra-quiet and comes complete with full-time manual override in single or 'one-shot' autofocus mode. The Sony mount is not equipped with the VC image stabilization mechanism, as anti-shake functionality is included in the body of Sony digital SLR cameras. Consequently, the name of the Sony mounted lens, SP 70-300mm F/4-5.6 Di USD, does not include the VC description. The Tamron VC seems to make the image "jump" more than the Canon IS when stabilization starts up and is sometimes seems to "jerk" the image during use more than the Canon system, but it seems just as effective once in operation. The Tamron has modestly less flare, less barrel distortion at 70mm and modestly less pincushion distortion at 300mm.

D700 / SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD / 4,256×2,832 / 1/80秒 / F5.6 / +0.3EV / ISO200 / 絞り優先AE / WB:雲天 / 300mm Both lenses are sharp wide open and improve a little on stopping down. However they can both be used wide open without worrying too much about image quality. Technically, the Tamron overall sharpness probably peaks at around f8 (center) and f11 (corner) at all focal lengths, but the difference between wide open and stopped down is quite small and shooting wide open (and hence with a faster shutter speed or lower ISO setting) will often give the best results. As usual, a low percentage of sharp images can be captured at even longer exposure durations - as low as 1/10 at 300mm. CA is very well controlled in the Tamron 70-300 VC, with only a small amount of CA apparent in full frame corners.Focus breathing (image changes size when focusing) is noticeable at the wide end, but far less apparent to me at 300mm. The Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens is available in Canon (reviewed), Nikon and Sony/Minolta mounts. If you compare the sharpness of the Tamron SP 70-300 mm with the sharpness of more expensive 70-300 mm zooms from other brands, this Tamron is the man. The center sharpness, expressed in lines/sensor height, is generally high. Only at the longest focal lengths is the center sharpness visibly lower. If you have a shot made at 300 mm blown up to 100% on your screen, then it looks less sharp, woollier than pictures made at shorter focal lengths. That is not an unusual occurrence with telephoto zoom lenses; only the most expensive zoom lenses also perform excellently at the longest focal length. The edge sharpness is lower than the center sharpness. This difference is visible at 300 mm, but at all the other focal lengths the corners are still so sharp that in practice, most photographers won’t notice that the center is even sharper.

The SP 70-300mm F5-5.6 Di VC USD (Model A030) employs Tamron's esteemed image stabilization mechanism-VC (Vibration Compensation). The bottom line is that even a sharp lens does not deliver sharp subjects if not focused accurately.

Tamron 70-300 F/4-5.6 Di VC USD SP: cosa significa?

The focusing ring is about 3/4'' wide, also rubber with ribs. The focusing ring ends at soft stops at the close-focus and infinity focus points, and will focus past infinity. With superior optical performance, Tamron’s own USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) and VC (Vibration Compensation), the SP 70-300mm F4-5.6 Di VC USD (Model A005) provides the performance of a high-end premium telephoto zoom that is appealing to a broad spectrum of photography enthusiasts.

Full frame sensor format DSLR users should expect to see between 1.5 and just over 2 stops of vignetting in the corners. By effectively combining these two ultrasonic vibrations, it is possible to convert the energy from the vibrations that produced simple motion into energy known as ‘deflective traveling waves’, which then moves around the circumference (rotation direction) of the ring. Aside from being narrow at the long end, the 70-300's variable max aperture means that manual exposures utilizing The Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 Di VC USD Lens is not a small or light lens, but it is average for its class. For one 1/3 the price of the Canon 70-200 IS (L) the Tamron is surely a great buy and very highly recommended.
