About this deal

In our experience, we found it to be a perfect addition to our existing full-sized Theraguns. It will perfectly complement the Prime, Elite, or the Pro, and you can take it on the go. It comes with 4 excellent-quality attachments, and a hard carrying case. The new mini only has a pouch. Apart from amplitude, the Theragun differentiates itself from the “massage gun” competition in two main ways. The first is its triangular handle, which offers a more ergonomic grip, allowing you to more easily massage parts of your body that might otherwise be difficult to reach. It may be the size of a small water bottle, but it’s brimming with impressive features. You get five interchangeable heads (most mini massagers come with just one or two) and there are five speed settings to flit between, giving you a whopping 25 massage combos to try. If you need some guidance, there’s a handy user manual, which provides step-by-step routines for warm-up, mobility and recovery. According to our tester, these were genuinely useful.

Even so, the biggest improvement is the sound produced. The mini 1 had a harsh, rough sound. The sound produced by the Mini 2 was less harsh and grating in our testing, a marked improvement over the Mini 1. But as far as power goes, you’ll definitely notice the difference between the Mini and the more expensive Theragun models like the Prime, Elite, and Pro. Because of the Mini’s shorter amplitude, you’ll have to apply more pressure to get a comparably deep massage. But with only a 20-pound maximum additional force, pressing too hard will cause the shaft to slow down, stall, or recoil. The battery is decent on the Mini, with a two and a half hour life. I only needed to charge it once, and it lasted for an entire week’s worth of testing. Charging time was also decent — it took a little under an hour to power the Mini from a low charge to a full one. If your Mini is completely dead, expect a charge time of an hour and twenty minutes.

Theragun is the "gold standard" of massage guns, but is it worth its hefty price tag and how does it compare to cheaper alternatives?

When you're browsing the best massage guns, ideally your purchasing priorities should centre on noise control, battery life and quality.

But the big question would be, does the small device also mean a smaller capacity battery? We don’t have the answer to this question yet. We couldn’t find battery capacity information from Therabody. In the Runner’s World Lab, our expert tester trialled a range of guns over a three-week period, using them after a variety of workouts, from running and HIIT to strength training and yoga. The Thumb Head: This one is the only firm head in the set. However, it has a somewhat similar shape to the other two. It’s also the smallest. Another useful tool is the Therabody YouTube channel that contains a series of video clips telling you how to treat specific conditions and ailments using your Theragun. Demonstrations are done by Theragun founder Dr Jason himself and they’re often around two minutes with easy-to-follow instructions.Mini 1 has a 12mm amplitude. This is the highest among mini guns. Nothing has changed with mini 2. It also has a 12mm stroke length. 12mm amplitude is confirmed. No other mini come close. The massage gun has five different speed settings ranging from 1750 to 2400 PPM (Percussions Per Minute) – this indicates the number of times the device pulses – so you should be able to find a speed setting and attachment to suit any muscle area you want to treat.

As we mentioned before, the Theragun is considered to be the gold standard of massage guns in the same way that the GoPro is the gold standard of action cameras. The main reason for this is because the company claims that it’s able to “reach 60% deeper into the muscle than average massage guns”. Yes we have seen some lighter devices, but those are often plastic and toy-like with very little power. We like to use the Ekrin Bantam as our benchmark for the perfect mini massage gun. The Bantam weighs 1.1 pounds – Theragun mini finally catches up! We voted the tiny Bantam the best mini gun, but Theragun mini 2 is finally catching up! The mini 1 wasn’t the quietest mini massage gun. Upon using the Mini 2, we personally felt it was a significant upgrade from its predecessor. From our perspective as long-term users of various devices, the one-year warranty was a disappointment as we value longer warranty periods. That extra hundred for the Prime will also get you four attachments, as opposed to the single “standard ball” that comes with the Mini. All things considered though, the standard ball is a good catch-all attachment that can be used effectively on most parts of the body. This is especially true given the fact that Theragun attachments are composed of closed-cell foam instead of rigid plastic or hard rubber, both of which have a tendency to be unforgiving on bony areas or extremely tight knots. It still takes little pressure to stall the motor. We estimate it’s at, or perhaps even below, 20lbs at the third gear. For the initial two gears, the stall force is little. While we don’t expect a mini device to have a monster stall force, having very little has its downsides.
