Steel Micro Coils - this breathable layer provides pressure relief, helping you get a more comfortable night's sleep. The only slight issue initially is that new mattress smell. It’s entirely dependent on the mattress but the king size for this review did have a slightly chemically scent for almost four days. It evaporated after that time though and wasn’t particularly unpleasant even on the first day.

I dropped a 6kg weight from roughly 5 inches above the mattress and roughly 25 inches away from the wine glass, and then again getting nearer in increments each time until it was approximately 5 inches away. I was impressed at how little the wine glass moved in all drop tests. In all seriousness, I would never have imagined that an Emma mattress could possibly be more comfortable than a [well-known brand] orthopaedic mattress. One area of performance where the Emma Original fell short was on edge support. I felt definite sloping when sitting on the edge of the bed, which increased for the heavier testers on my review panel. I also placed a 20kg near the edge of the Emma Mattress and this created noticeable sloping too. The mattress is so comfortable and keeps us both warm and cosy.
