About this deal

We start our own businesses because we love it. Passion is key – or else we wouldn’t be able to keep up with the demands of being a business owner, but what else do we need to ensure the success of our business? Prompt 19 by Keeley Schroder. What’s something you find funny, but others around you fail to see the humour? I read this article & found it to be an essential read for business owners & leaders, whether you are running on EOS or not. At the moment they have May Laugh Fest on, so for the whole month of May there’s an exciting line-up of comedy shows like ‘Improv Magic,’ ‘A Bard’s Tale’ and ‘Instant Broadway.’ The best thing about Improv is how every show is different & delightfully surprising.

As a feminist activist and English student, I couldn’t help but instinctively laugh my head off when this comment appeared on an article I wrote for a local newspaper about Public Sexual Harassment (PSH) in Cambridge. This was such a great insight into Angie’s life, showing a greatly different side to her than we’ve seen on television. Well written in a way that Angie’s voice still carries through, I just wish that it had managed to go into a bit more depth on certain issues. However I fully understand why this might not have been the case ❤️. Easy to read and perfect to get you through isolation! Angie has done a great job with this book, and I truly believe there is a lot for readers to take away from it. It doesn’t matter if you don’t know who Angie is, after reading this book you will feel like she is one of your best friends. Angie's book deserves to be handed out to teenage girls during health class as she gives practical lessons on love, life, mental health, body issues, dogs and more. This book could be really helpful for young women. I’ve also had Wade on my podcast to discuss all things Improv & Covert Theatre, as well as creating creativity in a corporate culture and using Improv as a mirror for self-reflection & awareness.Reality star, Angie Kent has successfully transitioned platforms from the screen, to socials to now her own autobiography! It is authentically Angie and you can imagine her sitting on her gogglebox couch (with or without Yvie, depending on which chapters you read, haha) telling you how see she's the world as you read. An insightful and heartbreaking work. . . . Schmidt successfully negotiates her dual roles of ethnographer and kin through critical analysis of the humor which is considered necessary to navigating a difficult career working in Wisconsin’s Department of Corrections.” I was just riding a filly and getting her cantering on the gallops when three pigeons flew out of the bushes. The other two lads behind me stayed on their horses, but my filly darted and I went out to the right and landed on my ankle funny," she said. Speaking up and fighting against PSH and sexual assault is not a trend. It is an incredibly taxing thing for many survivors to do. In a survey by UN Women, 96% of respondents did not report incidents despite 97% experiencing PSH. Yet, using our voices to share our experiences gives us a sense of solidarity. When I see other people share their experiences, I know I am not alone and it gives me the courage to say what women experience daily is not okay. In turn, I have so many survivors message me saying that they have been encouraged to speak out.

I still laugh nervously at the most inappropriate times and am the only one laughing. It’s terribly awkward. It’s become an automatic reflex for bad situations, like when my husband said he was leaving out of the blue, I instantly started laughing. He didn’t find it funny, but it temporarily eased the pain. Book Review** Thank you to @hachetteaus for providing us a review copy of If You Don’t Laugh You’ll Cry by @angiekent_ . It’s not being first to market or being the most innovative, cutting-edge technology out there. It’s not even vision, execution or culture. It’s having a strong leadership team. It has everything to do with the specific people heading the major functions of the business. Hayley Turner closing in on landmark 1,000 winners but has no immediate plans for second retirement

Mark Twain said “the political and commercial morals of the United States are not merely food for laughter, they are an entire banquet” in 1907, so it appears the current “crisis” is at least 100 years old. Healthcare is in crisis according to some, including the Congressional Budget Office who forecast that healthcare spending will bankrupt the country. Drawing on decades of personal experience, a dozen years of sustained field research, and a wealth of pertinent studies across a range of disciplines, Claire Schmidt offers what is at once a deeply humanistic ethnography of prison workers and the finest extant study of any occupation’s folk humor.” As an individual, I can only really take care of my responsibilities; to myself, to my wife and daughters, family and friends, neighbors and community. And while I empathize deeply for the families hurt by gun violence, I confess I have only a vague idea of what a solution might look like. Unfortunately, I am suspicious of anyone peddling simplified solutions and fixes. The problem is not simple. But less vague is a feeling that someone, somewhere, is not doing their job. For example, a 2016 study of 100 people found a significant difference in blood viscosity after consuming high-pH water compared to regular water after a strenuous workout. This means blood flowed more efficiently with alkaline water which then increases oxygen delivery throughout the body. And what am I studying? Something I have been doing for a long time, “Advising family businesses”. I just wanted to add some more tools & frameworks to my toolkit – so now I hopefully learned more about Succession planning & Entrepreneurial renewal as well as strengthening my knowledge of Strategic planning & Governance.

I believe that this book would really benefit young girls. As Angie talks about love, life, mental health and various social situations, knowing that someone has been through similar things before could be really helpful for young women. In Gino’s experience, every single company that has consistently gotten what they want from their business as well as enduring & overcoming huge challenges like a pandemic or a recession, has had this one thing in common. They’re repeating the show this weekend, so if you get a chance, regardless of your political leaning, please do go along. You’ll be supporting local business & I promise it won’t disappoint.
