Looking to give your taste buds an even bigger surprise? Flavored salt and vinegar chips are the way to go! This bag of Mexican Style papitas from the family-operated Siete brand takes things to a whole other level with the introduction of a bit of spice. The pleasant tang of vinegar is nicely balanced with a sprinkling of real serrano chile powder, offering a touch of heat and plenty of earthiness to these crunchy chips. In fact, these were actually our favorite salt and vinegar potato chips in the flavor department, as after the taste tests were said and done, these were the chips we wanted to keep munching on. In addition to featuring a beautiful rainbow of autumnal hues, these chips also come with a super tasty underlying sweetness, almost like a bag of dehydrated fruit strips! It may not be the first flavor profile that comes to mind when you picture a salt and vinegar chip, but it is a tasty one nonetheless.

We found the salty flavor of these chips to be well balanced by the acidic components--in this case a mixture of malic acid and vinegar--and that these chips somehow had a more savory, potato-y taste than many of the other varieties we tasted. Nutrition Content: carefully considering fat and sodium contents, as well as sugars, protein, fiber, vitamins/minerals provided, and general quality of ingredients. Final Thoughts on Reviewing the Best Salt and Vinegar ChipsIs advertised as being healthy, but actually contains the highest saturated fat content and a significant amount of sodium. Sea salted flavour popchips in particular have 6.5 syns in for a 28g serving, making them quite high in syns, so should only be eaten in moderation on the slimming world plan. And just what you don’t want to hear about these extra costly chips is that they are extra sensitive as well. Since they’re made from dehydrated animal protein, they are more sensitive to moisture than the usual potato-based chip options and the bag advises you to consume them within 14 days of opening. They are structurally fragile as well, and we sadly found lots of broken pieces in the bottom of our bag. Pros: ALLERGEN NOTE: all these chips are certified gluten free--wohoo! Keep an eye out for other allergens though, as commercially produced chip brands are well-known for making use of potentially problematic oils such as peanut oil or soybean oil. We’ll be sure to make note of such oils on products where it pertains. Best Classic Salt & Vinegar Chips: Lay's Salt & Vinegar Flavored Chips

Some of our favorite chips were not made from potatoes at all, and instead were crafted from alternative ingredients. In the case of Terra Chips, it’s all about vegetal goodness. The clincher here is that at the time of writing, they are on sale in Tesco Ireland for a mere €5 for a bottle - normally €6.99. A little birdie told me that there are also two more offerings to be released soon in Tesco Ireland - B Fruitiful Strawberry and B Fruitiful Passionfruit - which will be only 55 calories (only 2.5 syns per glass) However, although popchips can be high in syns depending on the serving and flavour, they are the healthier option in comparison to standard crips, as they are popped rather than fried, cutting down the fat content of the chips. Though potato chips have been around for several hundred years, it was not until 1954 that a process for adding seasoning to chips was introduced to the commercial chip market. This simple shift opened the floodgates for flavors such as barbecue, sour cream & onion, cheese & onion, and of course--salt & vinegar.Level of spice is nicely balanced with the tangy, salty flavors of these chips--our favorite tasting chips across the board.
