Sensodyne Repair & Protect comes in Extra Strength and Cool Gel. These are both fairly strong mint flavors. Sensodyne also has an Original Pink flavor, which is more subtle. Is this a whitening toothpaste? Anecdotally the treatments work, and there seems to be a lot of evidence from manufacturers, but there is only limited evidence when reviewed independently by the Cochrane Collaboration. Stannous Fluoride

You need to give it a couple of weeks for the effect of strontium chloride to build up before it can take full effect, and then continue to use it even if the symptoms improve. Yes. Repair & Protect is designed to protect teeth. Fluoride enters the dental plaque and reverses damage by shielding the dentin layer from sensitivity. It protects teeth from cavities and adverse effects caused by hot or cold foods. 4. How does Sensodyne Repair and Protect Toothpaste taste? There is no need to use Sensodyne with Novamin in addition to the Biomin F. However if you are still getting sensitivity after 2-4 weeks of using Biomin F, you could try using the Sensodyne instead. Yes, toothpastes formulated for sensitive teeth do work, but you may need to try different active ingredients to find one that works for you. Sensodyne Repair and Protect Original Toothpaste is clinically proven to provide long-lasting protection for sensitive teeth*. This daily repair toothpaste is expertly formulated to form a protective layer over vulnerable areas of your sensitive teeth and the exposed dentine. It contains fluoride to help strengthen enamel, helping prevent cavities. Using a sensitive toothpaste may not be necessary if you only experience occasional sensitivity, but it is generally safe and effective. Stannous Fluoride Beware of abrasiveness with whitening toothpastes, which could make any existing sensitivity worse. But the following toothpastes contain active ingredients to help control tooth sensitivity whilst also improving appearance:

Finally, if you have tried many different options and they aren’t helping, there are some specialist products you can get on prescription from your dentist or buy directly from your dentist’s office. Strontium chloride doesn’t treat the root cause of the sensitivity and so you may develop tooth sensitivity again in the future. Although it prevents the message being passed on, it does not treat the cause of sensitivity, so you could develop sensitivity once again. Sensodyne Repair and Protect Original toothpaste delivers long-lasting protection for sensitive teeth* Sensodyne Repair & Protect has an Extra Fresh and Cool Gel mint flavor, which freshens breath and helps teeth to feel cleaner. While many people opt for a mint toothpaste, it may cause burning in those adverse to mint flavors. As a sensitivity relief toothpaste, Repair and Protect’s main goal is to target sensitive areas by repairing the dentin and forming a shield against further damage. Avoid over brushing. Being mindful of how you brush to make sure you do not press too hard with the brush. Using an electric toothbrush with a pressure sensor can help to monitor this. Sensodyne Repair & Protect is designed to restore teeth by filling exposed holes in the dentin. However, the toothpaste has an RDA rating of 104. The ADA recommended upper limit is 250 This means it features fairly high on the RDA scale. With this in mind, Sensodyne is most suited to those with occasional rather than severe sensitivity. What makes Sensodyne anticavity? Unfortunately, there are very few toothpastes on the US market which do contain arginine, so choice is limited. However you may also be able to buy arginine-containing products at your dentist’s office to take home. Calcium and Phosphate Ions

All Sensodyne toothpastes contain either stannous fluoride or potassium nitrate and are useful if you suffer from sensitive teeth. Can sensitive toothpaste cause sensitive teeth? When it comes to using the Biomin F with fluoride and GC Tooth Mousse with fluoride I would recommend using the Biomin F for your regular brushing. That means brushing twice daily for two minutes. The manufacturers also recommend that after you finish brushing swirl the foamy toothpaste around your mouth for 30 seconds, and spit out the excess. Do not rinse, with anything, do not eat, and do not drink anything for at least 30 minutes after brushing. Use the Tooth Mousse directly before bed time. Massage a small amount onto the affected tooth.

BioMin – Calcium FluoroPhospho Silicate – a “bioactive glass” which essentially releases calcium and phosphate ions, also containing fluoride. In terms of managing the sensitivity with toothpastes, you will need to give whatever paste you are using some time to work – about 2-4 weeks. If you are still getting symptoms after this it might be because the product isn’t working for you and then it is time to try something different. When enamel is worn away, or gums recede, the dentine can become exposed, leading to tooth sensitivity with hot and cold foods and drinks. Tooth sensitivity is an ongoing condition and benefits from daily specialist care. Sensodyne is the No.1 dentist recommended brand for sensitive teeth**.

Ultimately, tooth sensitivity is caused by exposed dentin tubules (the nerves that sense pain lie within these parts of the tooth). A change in hot/cold/pH etc causes movement of the nerve within the tubule, which causes a pain signal to be sent to your brain. Not everyone gets a benefit from all sensitive toothpastes. One ingredient may work better than another for you. If you switch products and ingredients, you may lose the benefits from the other toothpaste. The new toothpaste hasn’t caused the sensitivity, but it is no longer helping. If you suddenly develop sensitive teeth, see a dental professional. Does toothpaste for sensitive teeth work?

This is not a whitening toothpaste. Although, Sensodyne contains stannous fluoride which can lift artificial surface stains on the tooth. However, Sensodyne offers other whitening products designed for those with sensitive teeth. How soon can I expect results? Gentle Whitening variety includes Pentasodium Triphosphate and Alumina to help reduce stains, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate (a foaming agent) Hypersensitivity occurs when the tooth’s dentin layer is exposed. Also known as cavities, these holes result from breakdown caused by acidic or sugary foods . Hot and cold foods cause discomfort by entering the holes and reaching the tooth’s nerves. It takes time for potassium nitrate to work, so there is no instant relief. You need to use these products for a few weeks to see if they work for you, and if they do help – do not stop using them!
