About this deal

Our biggest complaint is really the smart TV software layout, though – it's not as intuitive as some options. You don’t have to spend long in the AU7100’s company, though, to realise that a TV doesn’t have to be an extrovert to stand out from the crowd. Solid processing and a thoughtful, balanced picture that actually seems to have had some care and attention lavished on it can be more than enough.

The only flaw, and this will come as no surprise, is the sound quality, it’s rubbish just like all modern tv’s nowadays so you do need a sound bar or another sound system. We haven’t got anything too fancy just a standard Sony sound bar with no sub woofer or anything else and the sound is lovely for the place we have the TV. Not sure how to choose what 40-inch, 42-inch or 43-inch TV is for you? While the options might feel overwhelming, it's worth considering what we think about when recommending TVs here on TechRadar. With the former, you only need to replace the HDMI cable, while the latter just means you have to wait for it to fix. The Samsung Q60C QLED is a decent TV from Samsung and an alternative to the Sony X85K and Roku Select Series. Unfortunately, the Sony is much better overall for about the same price, and the far cheaper Roku TV is a tad better overall. Said picture performance features the sort of stunning contrast that only OLED can deliver, and the C3 is much punchier than rivals such as the Sony A90K. Colours are vibrant but natural, and there's plenty of subtlety to shading. The increased pixel density of having a 4K resolution crammed into a 42-inch display makes for superb sharpness and solidity, too.Brightness aside, the G3 delivers crisp, accurate and vivid pictures across both SDR and HDR content and a wonderful gaming experience courtesy of LG’s Game Optimizer Mode and four HDMI 2.1 ports, all of which support 4K@120Hz, VRR and ALLM. The webOS operating system is another great strength of LG TVs and is as easy to use as ever on the G3. The selection of streaming services is enormous, navigation using the Magic Remote is intuitive and the home screen is less cluttered than it was on webOS 22. This question is pretty much moot now, as the vast majority of TVs are now 4K. It's actually rather hard to find Full HD (1080p) models, even at relatively small sizes. We have state-of-the-art testing facilities in London, Bath and Reading, where our team of expert reviewers do all of our testing. This gives us complete control over the testing process, ensuring consistency. What's more, all review verdicts are agreed upon by the team as a whole rather than an individual reviewer, again helping to ensure consistency and avoid any personal preference. Other useful connections include optical and stereo outputs, which can be used in lieu of HDMI ARC to connect legacy audio equipment. Headphone outputs are still fairly common, too, though Bluetooth is also supported by most TVs now and some models now feature the latter but not the former.

The damage may be a bloated capacitor, which an experienced repairman can easily replace. 5. My Sharp TV has No SoundThis is a brilliantly detailed and sharp performance, too, and Sony's processing includes a feature that automatically enhances the depth of the image, resulting in excellent solidity and three-dimensionality. On the subject of processing, Sony's motion-handling is still peerless, smoothing panning shots and fast action without introducing any unnaturalism. Sony’s flagship 4K TV for 2022 is also the Japanese manufacturer’s first quantum dot-powered OLED. It’s quite a bit more expensive than the other QD-OLED on the market, Samsung’s S95B, but is crammed full of picture and audio enhancements to deliver one of the most immersive TV viewing experiences currently available. If you're buying a TV below 32 inches and can save a lot of money on a Full HD model, by all means go for it (4K won't be a huge benefit at that sort of size anyway), but otherwise 4K is both worthwhile and, in all likelihood, your only option. Should you buy an HDR TV?

In this guide, we've also included several 42-inch and 43-inch TVs, which might give you a bit of extra screen space if the best 40-inch TVs seem a touch too small. What about 42-inch TVs and 43-inch TVs? In case you haven’t heard, Sharp TVs were recently bought by the same company that owns Hisense TVs. TCL has gradually been strengthening its foothold in the global TV market and the C845 represents the first chance UK consumers have to experience its top-tier Mini LED models. It’s priced extremely aggressively but doesn’t skimp on features and still manages to deliver impressive picture performance.

HARMAN/KARDON® Speaker System

Roku is a stable smart TV operating system that many brands use. Since it’s a widely used platform, you can expect support for a lot of apps. HDR10 is a static HDR format that applies the HDR values on a scene-by-scene basis (i.e. whenever the camera cuts to a new scene). Dolby Vision, on the other hand, applies this image information (called metadata) on a frame-by-frame basis. This dynamic form of HDR, when implemented properly, has the potential to improve upon the standard HDR10 presentation. LG’s sixth generation Alpha 9 processor now features Alpha Reality for the most optimised picture yet. Alpha Reality includes AI Super Upscaling Pro – delivering the best possible picture from sub-4K sources, maximising the screen’s potential. OLED Dynamic Tone Mapping Pro uses four times the zone mapping (now 20,000 zones) for enhanced HDR contrast. Object Enhancer and HDR Expression Enhancer optimise specific picture elements for enhanced sharpness.
