About this deal

Minimum focal distance on these is advertised as only 5.1ft, which is excellent and makes these an ideal choice if you also like viewing flowers, insects or even birds from closer ranges. Comparisons Gone are the days when binoculars were specified for military and secret agents; today, we need them in all fields. Whether you love watching a soccer game on the weekends or have planned to get on the Alaska cruise this summer, having binoculars will always boost your excitement. Once you decide to buy binoculars, the competition in the optics market will startle you. From the binoculars for kids to those for stargazers, there are a plethora of options. Vortex Optics which hails down from Wisconsin is undoubtedly a well-trusted contemporary optics brand; whereas Nikon is a Japan-based optics brand considered as the master in the binoculars market. So, read on to find out which one should you go for! Nikon Monarch 7 vs Vortex Viper HD – pros and cons This way you should get a pretty good understanding of each model making it easier to decide right for you and your needs: Vortex Viper HD 10x42 Binoculars Review ArmorTek: Ultra hard, scratch-resistant coating protects exterior lenses from scratches, oil and dirt

Cameras Mirrorless Cameras DSLR Cameras Digital Compact Cameras Video Cameras Lenses Mirrorless Camera Lenses DSLR Lenses Lens Filters Lens Accessories The most popular binoculars for birdwatching come with a magnification in the lower range of 8x to 10x. You can achieve a much wider field of view when using binoculars with a lower magnification and also get a brighter image for the same physical size. A pair of 8x40 have 40mm lenses and a brightness factor of 5, the same as a pair of 20x100s which would weigh close on 4 kilos. Binoculars with a lower magnification are also much easier to hold steady - a must unless you rest them on a support or choose a pair with image stabilisation. If you’re shopping for a quality pair of wildlife watching or birding binoculars that almost rivals the big names for optical performance and build quality at a fraction of the price, then the Viper HD from Vortex needs to be on your short list. This really is an exceptional binocular. This is balanced out by the high magnification, which can lead to dimmer images, but the Kaibabs’ excellent coated optics - fully multicoated, with dielectric mirror coatings on the prism surfaces - plus the use of an extra-low dispersion glass element - means you’re not losing too much light to the inner workings of the binoculars, and it’s being focused sharply to avoid color fringing. When you combine the light weight, superb ergonomics, great balance and compact form of the Viper HD carrying and using it in the field for extended periods is a pleasure rather than a chore. Focusing With the Vortex Viper HD 10x42 binoculars you are getting a fantastic, high quality optical device at what I would consider is a more than fair price especially when you consider all the high end features, components extras and general attention to detail. What I Don't Like

Colours are vibrant and clear. The view appears completely colour neutral (colours as you’d see them with the naked eye) at first, but if you look really carefully it is possible to discern a very slight “cool” bias to the view. It’s not really an issue, and is only apparent if you look very carefully for it, or compare the view side-by-side with truly colour neutral optics. Cons: Very little to criticise here — Vortex have pretty much hit the nail on the head with this binocular. If I’m being hyper critical colours are skewed ever so slightly on the cool side of neutral, and a wider field of view would be a bonus. In general though it’s hats off to Vortex for an excellent product. As you can see from the comparison table below, this is good, but not spectacular for a full sized 10x binocular. Close focus on the Viper is impressively close. Documented at 1.55 metres or 5.1 ft it’s probably the closest focusing full size binocular I’ve ever used. While I didn’t measure the close focus precisely, I did manage to focus on my own feet… and I think it’s the first time I’ve ever managed that through a binocular. Every now and then you come across a pair of binocular that just “feels” right. As soon as I pulled the Viper HD out of its case I knew it was one of those binoculars. The exceptional light transmission achieved by this model should help hunters watch their quarry as they bed down in the evening light, and help acquire targets in the early morning light. Or it will give the nature watcher, or birder, the edge to achieve a more enjoyable viewing experience as the sun rises and sets, without spending thousands. Comfort
