About this deal

The Word For Today is freely given to anyone who asks! We are able to do this through the generous donations of other readers, who desire you and others to receive the devotional for free. Bob preached his first sermon at 13, writing it out in a school exercise book. Until his passing in June 2019, he continued to write out each reading for The Word for Today longhand on a yellow legal pad rather than use technology. He was fortunate as a teenager to have Gordon Magee as his mentor. When he moved from Ireland to the United States, Magee offered to pay for Bob’s passage to America. It all began in 1992, when Bob began jotting down inspiration he’d received from more than 40 years of being involved in Christian leadership, and from the Biblical principles and Godly values instilled in him by his mother. The devotional comes in 3 month updates. Depending on how many days are within the relevant months, will depend on how many days it covers. Does it cost me anything to receive it?

She came into the Kingdom at a hundred miles an hour,’ Bob once wrote ‘and never slowed down. She took her family in one hand and her faith in the other, and said, “we are going to serve the Lord.”He began collating his inspirational writings in 1992 and in 1993 started sending copies to friends and supporters in the United States. [4] Astounded by the response he received in the United States, Gass offered his devotional readings to Gareth Littler, the former Chief Executive Officer of UCB, to encourage their listeners. In April 1994, The Word For Today was launched with an initial print run of 3,500 copies and circulated to UCB's supporters within the UK. The reach was later expanded to other parts of the world. [1] Bob Gass Ministries [ edit ] Bob Gass was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on January 15, 1944. At 12, he committed his life to Christ. Five years later, he moved to America and was ordained into the ministry.

Unless otherwise noted, all Bible verses are from the Authorised King James Version or the New King James Version. I believe we all have a kingdom destiny. We are each called by God to be priests and as believers, we all have access to the same anointing. The same Holy Spirit, the same presence of God rests on each of us and we need to get the message of the gospel to this culture. We live in a world where people are searching for happiness and looking for it in drugs, multiple relationships and money. People think that if they get just one more thing or make some more money, they will be happy. But that is not the answer. We have the answer and His name is Jesus Christ.” And people say to me I wish God would talk to me. I look at them and saying, well, exact ly what would you like him to say? Because if He talks to you, he may not be telling you what you want to hear. So I’ve got into this kind of argument with the Lord. You might say ‘how did you know it was The Lord?’… Because I would never have told myself to do that. And the devil is called a thief, so I know he would never have told me to do it. So that just leaves the one other option. And so finally I said, okay Lord, I’ll send it at the cheque was to be sent to the widow of a minister who had died in the Oklahoma City bombing – a Spanish pastor called Gilbert Martinez, with a wife and five children, the youngest was an infant in her arms.

Bob and Debby Gass have been great friends of Vision’s ministry for many decades – from almost the very beginning. Bob had a unique style and a rare gift of taking the Word of God and applying it to everyday life. He wrote The Word For Today – with the support of a great team – in a way that it appealed to those who didn’t know God (so that it acted as an ‘appetiser’) and it also helped more mature believers to go deeper in their faith (rather like a ‘vitamin’ especially in challenging times). That’s why we’ve created this FREE daily devotional. 90 Days of Faith, Hope and Courage in Changing Times (sourced from readings in the UCB Word For Today) will encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, regardless of what’s going on in the world right now. When we spend time with God in daily Bible study, He gives us courage and faith, even in the middle of changing times. Bob Gass, who sadly passed away on 5 June 2019, and his wife, Debby, are the authors of The Word for Today. You’ve probably seen people make terrible decisions when they were drained, tired, discouraged, and afraid, which they would never have made otherwise. Generally speaking, you won’t choose the right course of action when you’re in the wrong frame of mind. When you have an important decision to make, sometimes the wisest thing you can do is—wait until you’re rested. An anxious mind in an exhausted body can lead to a terrible decision.

By the time Bob was 12, his heroes were not movie stars or sports celebrities but men and women of God. At this time, he gave his life to Christ. His mother was a formative influence on his life, encouraging him to attend church as often as possible. Mariana and her dedicated team have received awards and recognition from the Romanian government and the European Union – naming The Village of Hope “a model for the entire country.”

In 1998, Bob launched The Word For You Today in the U.S. He wanted to give churches a tool that would help pastors disciple their members and keep them engaged with God's Word on a daily basis. Today over 5,000 churches each quarter use the devotional, with a reach of 1 million copies per quarter. The devotional is in print, on television, radio, and digital platforms in places like Africa, Argentina, Cuba, China, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Nepal, and Russia, and currently reaches over 83 million people each day.

Bob’s vision for The Word for Today is ‘to whet your appetite so much that you’ll say, ‘Wow! I didn’t know that was in the Bible! Maybe I’d better go and read it for myself.”’ Bob himself, actually planned for this day, several years ago. The readers of The Word for Today were always at the front of his mind. As he grew older, he and the team wanted to ensure The Word for Today would continue to encourage and support believers for many years to come and he began a long writing project, which would mean the devotional could continue long after he passed away. Bob had a huge heart for ministry and wanted to ensure that when he finally did go to be with the Lord, the work would continue. We believe that Bob’s legacy will ensure that The Word for Today will reach even more people in years to come, than it has over the last 25 years. When you don’t have the answer. ‘Call to me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know’ (Jeremiah 33:3). Initially, The Word for Today began when Bob became aware of the struggles of United Christian Broadcasters in the United Kingdom during his 1991 visit to his homeland. A wedding day message from God: ‘You will reach more people through your writing, than you will in all the years of your preaching.’

Today, we are sad to announce that Bob Gass, the author of Vision’s daily devotional, The Word for Today, passed away peacefully on the evening of the 5th June, at his home in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Bob’s wife, Debby has given us permission to share this with you, as we know that many of you will have been greatly impacted by his ministry. Over seven years, over 20 million copies of Bob Gass quarterly devotionals were printed. Each day more than one million people read his ideas, insights and illustrations and every week 3,000 readers wrote to say, "It's just what I needed today." This volume contains 365 of best days.
