About this deal

There is no primer button or manual choke on the ST170. I was not expecting it to start on the first pull of the recoil cord, but was pleasantly surprised when it did. Subsequently, throughout my testing the Mountfield SP53 started first time every time. The level of smoke produced from the engine was minimal, as you would expect from a 4 stroke petrol engine.

Another feature worth mentioning is the scalping plate located at the front of the mower. Again this is a handy addition that will assist you and prevent accidental damage on uneven lawns. First impressions were very good, but what is the performance of the Mountfield SP53? Does it continue to impress whilst in action? The Mountfield SP41 is an excellent, self-propelled petrol mower which is fairly cheap but cuts beautifully.Length of Grass - You have to keep in mind this aspect, the length of the grass you’re trying to mow, especially if there are areas you let grow long. A larger blade will draw more energy from the engine as it needs to cover a larger area on each rotation, completing the job at hand faster. The steel desk is of a high quality, built to last but there is no hose attachment for cleaning. If creating a striped finish when you mow the lawn is important to you, choose another machine. This mower has wheels instead of a rear roller so it won’t leave stripes. For me, the engine started first time however, if it doesn’t press the primer button a few more times and try again. As you can see from my video below, the power of this engine was more than enough to deal with the most demanding conditions and to propel the mower up steep inclines.

OK, it doesn’t create that striped finish that many lawnsmiths strive for. That said, a lawn doesn’t need stripes to look beautifully manicured. In this review, we will look at all of the features and functions of this self-propelled petrol lawn mower. By the end of this review you will know if this mower is the right option for you and your lawn. You can also refer to my video review below for visual representation and to see this mower in action. As a general rule, petrol lawn mowers are fairly heavy which means pushing them up and down the lawn can be tiring work. Especially if your lawns are sloped.

The Mountfield Sp53 petrol mower has a wide cutting diameter of 51 centimetres. The large steel blade is intended for large lawns up to 2,500m 2. In this Mountfield SP41 Petrol lawn mower review, we’re going to take a look at one of Mountfield’s most popular models. You’ll also see why I think it’s a contender for the best petrol mower for smaller lawns. Short Mountfield SP41 Review

Cons

Also, the wheels are set wider than the cutting width. This means the mower won’t cut right up to the edges. As a result, you’ll need to finish the edges with a grass strimmer or some other edging tool.

Setting the mowing height consists of adjusting three levers. There is a lever for the rear wheels and the front wheels need adjusting individually. The mechanism is smooth and it takes seconds. After spending several weeks with the Mountfield SP53, I have to say, I’m pretty impressed. Assembly This Mountfield mower is powered by a 100cc overhead valve engine which is easy to start and economical to run. Self-Propelled Supplied with mulch plug, a large 60-litre-capacity collector and a discharge chute, the Mountfield SP51H is capable of either bagging, recycling or rear-discharging your grass cuttings (the catcher has a dust- and pollen-retaining hard plastic top, and is made from canvas to save storage space). It was long overdue for me to carry out a review of the Mountfield SP53 self-propelled petrol lawn mower. After testing the smaller brother of this mower ( Mountfield SP41) about a month ago, I wanted to experience and clearly see the difference in power, size and compare the performance and features of both, so you know what mower is the best option for you and your garden.

Mountfield GVCx145 Self-Propelled Auto-Choke Petrol Lawnmower SP51H

The self-propulsion, driving the blade and the rear wheels, is activated when the user lifts the throttle bar up towards the main bar to engage the clutch. Torque - Torque is a force, the power generated by the engine that gives a machine its ‘grunt’ to turn the blades, and to keep turning them under stresses like long, wet grass. The higher the torque, the better the performance under stress. The Mountfield engine is 4 stroke and runs on regular 95 unleaded petrol and separate standard SAE30 engine oil, so no need to mix. I always recommend that for all petrol mowers a fuel stabiliser is added to prevent corrosion and keep the internals of the engine clean, particularly over a longer period when the mower is not used i.e. winter months. By that I mean it’s well priced but good quality and has plenty of features to help you get the best finish when cutting the grass. 160cc OHV Engine
