I’ve spent a number of astrophotography imaging sessions using an Orion 8″ F/4 Newtonian reflector telescope. Unlike this RC, the reflector required constant collimation adjustments, and a coma corrector to produce a flat imaging field. A coma corrector is an essential added expense for anyone looking to take pictures with a “Newt”. In the case of my Orion 8″ astrograph, the Baader MPCC II (coma corrector) cost nearly as much as the OTA itself. Compared to Refractor These telescopes have a design made only of lenses, resulting in a lighter and more transportable telescope. It features a 102mm (4″) lens with a focal length of 600mm. The precision Altazimuth mount has slow-motion controls.

This option proved to be the perfect solution to my balancing issues. I mounted an old finder scope to the newly installed base for better balance and a useful way to align the RC6. I’ve accumulated a number of telescope accessories from previous ‘scopes over the years, which is handy in situations like this. For astrophotography, it’s best to consider telescopes with at least 6 inches of aperture, with a shorter focal length. Less than that and you will have a hard time capturing enough light to produce satisfying pictures. Focal length– the longer the focal length of your scope is, the higher magnification you’ll get, the sharper the view will be. Good product, good serviceAfter a week time and skies have been limited but had good views of Jupiter and moons and Saturn's rings. The scope, mount and tripod are compact and light. The app looks exciting. See Astroblender on YouT for review of similar. The manual is ok but Harrisons helped with setup online. Great service. (25/07/2021) Alan Gerrard - Sheffield Choosing a refractor telescope that best suits your needs mostly boils down to two specifications: aperture and focal ratio. Most planetariums and imaging software programs will calculate the most common camera chip sizes for you, or you can do the math for yourself. Richard Wright shared an excellent article on pixel scale for astrophotography in this Sky and Telescope article.
