About this deal

Once you have identified your demon, then it's time to exorcise him. This might work immediately, or it might take years. It might only work a bit. It might not work at all. Sometimes it will work but you will still need a doctor to fix the damage the demon did in the meantime. Sometimes it will work but you won't be able to tell until later. Sometimes it will only work for a while. Whatever happens, exorcism will be assumed to have been an effective course of action. Vatican formally recognizes international association of exorcists". www.ncronline.org . Retrieved 2023-02-03. World-famous exorcist who declared yoga was satanic dies". The Independent. 2016-09-17 . In this instance Hollywood’s sensationalist depiction of exorcism does at least get the basics right. During the first few centuries exorcism could be performed by all believers and it played an important role in attracting outsiders to the burgeoning faith. Father Gabriele Amorth, exorcist – obituary". The Telegraph. 2016-09-20. ISSN 0307-1235 . Retrieved 2023-04-13.At first the author talks how years are needed to exorcise a demon, yet later says possession is a gradual process, it can't immediately be made distinct from demonic oppression and other demonic influences. But you can also be instantly possessed via a spell/hex/etc. And you can't really tell for yourself if you are, because apparently losing control over your body and being trapped inside your head is one of the most extreme signs of possession, some sort of a final stage and not the norm or even the beginning. I frankly think despite the author's claims the book contains many exaggerations. Here I include his claims of performing over 30 000 exorcisms during the course of nine years, which means over 9 per day every day without rest. Yet less than a 100 turned out to be cases of actual demonic possession. But, one the other hand, this book shows the blinkered and quite unsettling narrow-mindedness of the Church and the belief that innocuous behaviors cause an awful corruption of the soul. That Wicca, violent TV or 'punk' can cause satanic possession seems an antiquated and regressive viewpoint of societal norms and personal freedoms. I fear that in Amorth's eyes my interest in Dungeons & Dragons or my son's fascination with console games like Dark Souls would be enough to set the exorcist to prayers of liberation on my behalf.

a collection of horror stories. If you want such stories, go see The Exorcist or The Exorcism of Emily Rose. Granted, this book presents an assortment of possession stories, but does not go into great gory details. And if present, the stories mainly serve as illustrations for the theological/pastoral descriptions. If you're expecting a freak show, you'll be disappointed; Brandreth, Gyles (29 October 2000). "An Interview With Fr Gabriele Amorth - The Church's Leading Exorcist". Catholic Exorcism. Telegraph Group Ltd. Archived from the original on 3 June 2001 . Retrieved 13 September 2006. At a conference in 2011, he denounced yoga as “the devil’s work” because it leads people to Hinduism and other religions based on what he saw as the false idea of reincarnation. He also said the devil is in the Harry Potter book series by J.K. Rowling, because its plot centered around magic. Books and Documentary These rituals encompass readings of the Psalms and Gospel, reciting of specific “exorcistic prayers”, holy water, a crucifix and the performing of the sign of the cross. Amorth’s decades of demon-hunting offers a fascinating look at a centuries-old practice. Becoming “The Pope’s Exorcist”

There is nothing sensationalistic about either book. Fr Amorth simply describes his experiences which include trying to understand what is going on before proceeding with an exorcism, the exorcism itself, and follow up subsequent to the event and, hopefully, ongoing healing.

World's top exorcist saw the Devil in Harry Potter, yoga, and thousands of middle-aged, middle-class women". National Post . Retrieved 2023-04-13.As it was an audio book, I am not sure I completely understood everything. I either need to listen to it again, read-read it or read another/more by Fr. Amorth.

Should you start to worry about the notion that facts are subjective and wonder if maybe there are alternative explanations for these utterly diverse phenomena - beware! Those who don't believe in the devil only provide proof of his existence. Father Amorth: My Battle Against Satan, interviewed by Elisabetta Fezzi, translated by Charlotte J. Fasi - published on November 15, 2018 by Sophia Institute Press (originally published as Padre Amorth: La mia battaglia con Dio contro Satana, Milan: Edizioni San Paolo, September 2017. Kostelní Vydří: Karmelitánské nakladatelství. ISBN 80-7192-981-6. OCLC 85548700.I find this book to be mostly fear mongering. It contains major contradictions and inconsistencies, so I'm baffled how it's popular even among believers. However, I was pleased to find out there are catholics who agree with me. As an exorcist, your initial step is to ask the demon's name. He might tell you. He might refuse. He might pretend not to be there. He might lie. He might obfuscate to throw you off the scent. However, none of this indicates that asking him is a useless exercise. It is not as sensational as one might expect, though it is still fascinating- but its true importance and interest lie in its exposition of the fact that the devil and demons do exist, and that they are actively battling to win our souls for Hell. We must fight for our salvation with prayer, fasting, and the sacraments. This book is an excellent wake up call to humanity and to bishops who do not believe in the activity of demons and are not helping their faithful in need of exorcisms- a very sad time in the Church. The author also exposes many of the means by which we open the doors to the evil one, for example, wicca, the ouija board, even astrology- some things which a great deal of people engage in and believe to be perfectly innocent and good. Hooper, John (2016-09-26). "Father Gabriele Amorth obituary". The Guardian. ISSN 0261-3077 . Retrieved 2023-07-09.
