Let’s start with some of the basics. Both Mevo and Mevo+ can run on iOS and Android (I tested on iOS). Mevo uses the dedicated Mevo app. Mevo+ uses the FlightScope Golf app and the FlightScope Skills app.

Generally the user experience was very passive once set up - you only need to touch your ipad to enter the new club. It did go into Sleep mode more often than we’d have liked, which was annoying as it meant it missed a few shots and required us to press the wake radar button on our iPad screen. What do I need for a budget home golf simulator? Most monitors guess at carry distance based on the measured items above. Other do try and factor in other items that impact carry distance like humidity, air pressure, temperature. I don’t know if any take into account wind or ball type. Even the best golf launch monitors must be easy to use. For most of us, practice time is limited and it shouldn’t be wasted trying to configure, connect and use a device meant to help us improve faster. Some units require more precise placement at setup. Over the years I’ve reviewed a lot of different golf tech products, but there’s one that I’ve been wanting to try that up until recently had eluded me: the FlightScope Mevo.

The best option I’ve seen in this price range that doesinclude all of those features is the Garmin R10. The accuracy is in a similar range to the Mevo, but it has substantially more features. Not the least of which is the ability to turn the R10 into a full-blown home golf simulator. Indoor Use with the Mevo While the Voice Caddie and Garmin offerings are self-contained, the other devices we tested require an app to communicate with the launch monitor and relay data to the user. We found the applications to be generally easy to navigate and hassle-free. However, this doesn’t affect the usability of the device at all – it’s very intuitive to use. Is the Flightscope Mevo Data Accurate? While I don’t exactly have a super scientific way to judge the accuracy, I did my best. I took a rangefinder and got the exact distance to one of the pins, and then hit balls with a gap wedge and based on my shot would try and guess how far the ball was based on the proximity to the flag. The first thing I realized when I got my FlightScope Mevo out of the box was just how small it really is.

I would think the larger unit would have a larger radar system and work better from an accuracy standpoint. With a 4X price difference, it’s hard to compare the Mevo to the Mevo Plus as apples to apples. What I can say is that, compared to similarly priced units, I think Mevo falls short. In contrast, I think Mevo+ is excellent compared to other devices in its price range. This was one feature the Garmin R10 nailed, when they included a phone mount with the device. Final Thoughts on the FlightScope Mevo If we’re being honest, some of the data points are pretty weak. I think I’m on solid ground when I say that no one cares about their shot’s flight time. Also, making total distance a unique parameter if you have carry and roll feels flimsy, as does shot shape. It feels like a small thing to be able to do this, but I found being able to use my watch to be an incredibly convenient and useful tool while I was on the range using the FlightScope.
