About this deal

The entire forefoot is covered with soft, flexible rubber. The forefoot rubber extends down into the midfoot on the lateral side. While they may not be the ideal shoe for someone looking for a more supportive ride (or stability shoe) or for seriously long runs of over 4 hours, the Rebel will satisfy most athletes looking for a lightweight daily trainer that can provide a perfect combination of cushioning and responsiveness come race day. Excellent for many, the Rebel keeps the best features of its predecessors and can be relied upon to as an all-rounder. The upper is a significant update. Originally a full knit bootie with integrated tongue and laces that ran through threaded loops. Now it’s an engineered mesh with a padded and structured heel cup. The upper loses the full bootie and goes to a standard split opening with separate tongue. Lacing is offset to the medial side (points towards the big toe). Matt: "The upper on the Rebel v2 is great. It is a thin mesh that holds my foot snuggly and comfortably. Underfoot, this shoe is not as stable as other models, but the soft and structured upper gave me the confidence to use the Rebel v2 no matter which runs I was going on." The habanero colorway of the Rebel v2. A bright orange rear upper with white forefoot diagonally. A blue outlined N logo over the midfoot.

Fuelcell Performance Running Shoes - New Balance

New Balance characterizes Fuel Cell as follows: " The Fuel Cell family is our line of performance, speed and rebound driven shoes but contrary to popular belief is not a midsole compound thus the vastly different rides of different shoes within the family."Developed to meet the ever-evolving demands of serious distance runners, the New Balance FuelCell collection is the perfect combo of speed, rebound and energy return. Showcasing an exciting array of cutting-edge performance-driven technologies, it promises to propel you to the next level. The core component of FuelCell running shoes is our nitrogen compound FuelCell foam technology - game changing midsole cushioning that delivers radically improved energy return performance. In a pair of New Balance FuelCell running shoes, you’ll feel the benefits with every propulsive stride. Of course, if you need stability shoes specifically there are plenty to choose from as well. Rebel v2 fits like a dream This shoe can do it all! It’s soft and plush working well on recovery days or for longer runs, but the midsole is bouncy and energetic enough to speed things up on tempo days too. The Rebel earned a perfect score (5/5) on our breathability test. To be absolutely certain, we examined the upper under a microscope and discovered that New Balance went above and beyond to promote airflow and heat dissipation. Even though it has lost some of its original DNA, I’m still happy about the direction that New Balance has taken with it because I make more use of it as a daily trainer than a speedwork trainer- it doesn’t have the snappy punch that I like in a speed trainer.

FuelCell Rebel v3 review - RunRepeat New Balance FuelCell Rebel v3 review - RunRepeat

Bryan: The blown rubber placed extensively in the forefoot and strategically in the rear has kept the weight of the Rebel 2 down, whilst providing for ample traction. However, as mentioned by the team above, durability is a concern with some of the ou Cheng: 200 grams to the dot was what my scale read for the weight of a single shoe (US8). When held in the hands, this manifests as an uncanny feeling of being far lighter than expected. Without taking a single step, it's apparent that the second iteration of the Rebel is completely different from the first. Jacob: Fuel Cell is the name of the game here and I’m a big fan—it’s a single-slab of soft, flexible, bouncy, and energetic foam. This deployment of FuelCell minds me of the Propel v1 in it’s dramatically soft and flexible feel. There is a balanced level of cushion and foam in the Rebel v2 where it’s not tippy at the heel or sink-in-forever feeling like the TC so there is more stability and direct connection with the ground on toe-off. The forefoot has some firmness. However, it is well-cushioned and not harsh. Ryan/Jacob/Sam/Michael: Highly flexible midsole doesn't provide much stability, and limits toe-off power

Sally: New Balance is on to something with this midsole, something good! I am totally in agreement with the others here: this is an outstanding non-plated shoe that can perform in any kind of condition and at any pace. An asymmetric split in the upper combined with offset lacing—reversed compared to what we’ve seen in the Nike Vaporfly Next%— works well. Pressure is evenly distributed across the top of the foot, and there are no noticeable hotspots. The New Balance FuelCell Rebel 2 is a highly versatile performance trainer. The shoe runs neutral throughout and provides a highly cushioned and responsive ride for how low profile and lightweight the shoe is. The Rebel 2 is an impressive trainer that can be looked at as a "do it all" A key element that allows the shoe to be so light and airy feeling yet supportive are the rear from lace up around the collars fairly stiff broad panels. If you liked the second version of the New Balance Rebel, with its cushioning and speed combination, then you’ll love the v3, which delivers an excellent all-rounder, enjoyable shoe for all types of runs. Lightweight and comfortable, the new Rebel v3 is a relatively fun shoe that provides great breathability, a more stable ride, and good value for money.
