About this deal

Bestselling author Katie Fforde has been honoured with the RNA Lifetime Achievement Award for her almost-30 year career as an author and for her dedication and service to the RNA. She is a #1 bestselling author and has sold over 4.5 million books in the UK alone. Katie has been President of the Romantic Novelists’ Association since 2011 – and will step down from this role in March 2023 – and founded the Katie Fforde Bursary to support aspiring authors. To many, she is the ‘Godmother of Romantic Fiction’. Meg goes to help her mother, Louise, at the hotel. It follows the ups and downs that running a country hotel entails. They desperately want to improve the hotel by adding en-suite bathrooms and improving the decoration. The owner of the hotel has recently passed away and the son’s of the owner are trying to find a mysterious third beneficiary of the hotel. Justin is a moody, handsome chef who happens to be the son of one of the sons.

A Springtime Affair: An utterly gorgeous feel-good romance

Jean Fullerton added, ‘The RNA Lifetime Achievement Award is the highest accolade our organisation bestows and this year we are honoured to present it to bestselling author Katie Fforde. As President of the RNA, Katie is a wonderful ambassador for the organisation and has championed the romantic fiction genre for decades. Katie is loved and respected across the industry and by her readers around the world. But to us in the RNA she’s ‘our Katie’ who has been a tireless supporter of both the organisation and writers and who now, after twelve years as our figurehead, is stepping down as President of the RNA.’ Meg had been about to to follow her dream and work at an exclusive restaurant in France, she wouldn't get paid but the experience would give her a good start in her chosen career.........this wasn't to be. Meg had my heart from Chapter One. The world is in the midst of social change where women fought for equal rights and pay, and our Meg is a girl with a plan. She is doing all she can to make her dreams of becoming a professional cook a reality. Not easy in a male dominated world. Yet, woe betide anyone who gets in her way… Then Justin, the son of the hotel owner, appears, determined to take over the running of the kitchen. Family politics, whimsical stories of the past, and a lot of passion for this project make the tale a lovely read.I have read a couple of Katie Fforde books before and really enjoyed them and this one didn’t disappoint either. A beautiful setting at Nightingale Woods Hotel in Dorset, one of my favourite places. The story is set in the 1960’s and followed Meg’s story. Meg and Justin are a brilliant couple, I loved how now matter how hard he tried he couldn’t not love her, not help but appreciated her cooking and admit she was excellent at what she did. Louise and Andrew were a lovely couple too, the mother daughter relationship was written really well, especially with the age difference not huge.

Katie Fforde - Fantastic Fiction One Enchanted Evening by Katie Fforde - Fantastic Fiction

Some characters were only mentioned in passing and then given a name, as though for the sake of giving them a name (Clover?). One walk-on who didn't say anything was randomly named Ted, and then we had Edward/Teddy mentioned later on who was a completely different but far more important person. At the end someone called Patsy suddenly featured quite importantly. Who is Patsy? I have to give a special mention to Ambrosine. I could have happily sat beside her for hours as she regaled me with her life stories *sighs*. Recieved a call from her mother and leave 'swing London'. Her mother who lives in Dorset running a smaMegll hotel and need help putting on a function. Jean Fullerton, the RNA Chair, commented, ‘Once again the judges have had the almost impossible task of choosing winners for each of our romantic awards categories. Huge congratulations to our worthy winners.’Sharon Ibbotson, the RNA Awards Coordinator, said, ‘Our Romantic Novel Awards in 2023 had nearly five hundred entries, which were whittled down to nine very worthy winners by our amazing reader-judges. Along with the winner of the Popular Romantic Fiction Award, their stories made people laugh, smile, weep and above all, fall in love. I am delighted to congratulate them for their success in our awards.’
