The Witcher 3 | GTA V | Dota 2 Reborn | Strange Brigade | Cyberpunk 2077 1.6 | Final Fantasy XV Benchmark | X-Plane 11.11 The Witcher 3 I took some synthetic benchmarks at the three different settings in Lenovo Vantage. First was in Performance mode, which boosts the GPU up to 140W: What really stood out to me was the peak brightness, being so close to 500 nits. This made a big difference when using the laptop next to a bright window. I still don’t think it’s enough to battle glare from direct sunlight, but I don’t use my laptop outside much anyway. When under Prime95 stress, the CPU would boost to 4.2 GHz and 90 W indefinitely with no need to throttle. Unfortunately, core temperatures will become very warm at just under 95 C which is warmer than on most other gaming laptops. In the BIOS, I was able to OC the GPU with some predefined settings. Here are the new results from adding +100Mhz:

The exterior construction is primarily made of aluminum, but the palm rest area and the vents are made of durable plastic components. The entire unit feels premium, including the plastic pieces, as they are all overmolded onto the aluminum bottom plate, which is firmly clipped into the chassis and secured by screws. All this effort leads to a solid design with no creaking or flex, so it was worth the effort. On paper, it’s a lot of what I’ve been looking for. Good screen, powerful GPU, stylish and yet not gamer-looking design, and some upgrade options. My main concerns were with the overall size of it and the weight. I am coming from a Razer Blade 15 after all, so good build quality was definitely on my list of desires. W (~5 h 5 min of use)– 1080p Youtube fullscreen in Chrome, Better Battery Mode, screen at 30%, Wi-Fi ON; As for external temperatures of the chassis, I took a number of measurements while using the laptop normally, and again while gaming for an extended period. See below for my results: The mids and highs sound just ok, but the bass is limited to as low as 100Hz. Even so, the sound is decent for movie streaming or watching Youtube. Just don’t expect your favorite song to sound like it does on some quality headphones or speakers.

The Legion 5 Pro has an 80Whr battery, which is a pretty decent size. Judging from the inside, it doesn’t look like they had any more room for something bigger either. measures relative graphics muscle by rendering sequences of highly detailed, gaming-style 3D graphics that emphasize particles and lighting. We run two different 3DMark subtests, Sky Diver and Fire Strike, which are suited to different types of systems. Both are DirectX 11 benchmarks, but Sky Diver is more suited to laptops and midrange PCs while Fire Strike is more demanding and made for high-end PCs to strut their stuff. The results are proprietary scores. The average temperature for the upper side under maximal load is 34.7 °C / 94 F, compared to the average of 33.9 °C / 93 F for the devices in the class Gaming. When you get to that point, it would be interesting to see QHD panels with RTX 3070 graphic performance comparison between different options. I think this will be popular and of interest to compare 5 Pro 16 inch with Asus ROG/Strix 17 or 15-inch QHD laptops. I am not talking only about gaming graphics, since many people will buy these laptops for dual purposes.

Combined with Nahimic 3D audio that pinpoints footsteps in space, you’ll be able to see and hear any scrub headed your way before they even get within firing range. I can try it if you can point me to the settings he used to let he battery run at that high of a TGP. I've never seen a battery capable of going that high though.

USB-A 3.1 gen 1, 1x USB-C 3.2 gen2 with Data, gen1, power and DP, 1x USB-C 3.2 gen1, HDMI 2.1, LAN, headphone/mic From looking at Reddit here one user claims it’s 9ms at 144hz so I assume that’s not great but not terrible for gaming The synthetic tests above are helpful for measuring general 3D aptitude, but it's hard to beat full retail video games for judging gaming performance. Far Cry 5 and Rise of the Tomb Raider are both modern, high-fidelity titles with built-in benchmarks that illustrate how a system handles real-world video games at various settings. We run them at the games' moderate and maximum graphics quality presets (Normal and Ultra for Far Cry 5, Medium and Very High for Rise of the Tomb Raider) at 1080p resolution. Far Cry 5 is DirectX 11-based, while we flip Rise of the Tomb Raider to DX12. The hinges look shiny at first, but as one user pointed out in my Legion 5 15” review, it’s because they are coated in plastic film. You can choose to leave this if you want to preserve them for whatever reason. Removing it is kind of a pain in the butt because it requires opening and closing the lid multiple times to get to it all. We also run a custom Adobe Photoshop image-editing benchmark. Using an early 2018 release of the Creative Cloud version of Photoshop, we apply a series of 10 complex filters and effects to a standard JPEG test image, timing each operation and adding up the total. As with Handbrake, lower times are better here. The Photoshop test stresses the CPU, storage subsystem, and RAM, but it can also take advantage of most GPUs to speed up the process of applying filters, so systems with powerful graphics chips or cards may see a boost.

The average temperature for the upper side under maximal load is 37.4 °C / 99 F, compared to the average of 33.9 °C / 93 F for the devices in the class Gaming. Quiet mode isn’t too shabby either, which is a good reason to opt for the 3070, if keeping noise levels low is your style. Still, it would have been nice if Lenovo included a QHD screen as an option. I think it would have paired better with the RTX 3070 for sure. Earn 3%-9% in rewards and get free expedited delivery on select products when joining MyLenovo Rewards. The colors certainly could be better. What really stood out to me was how sharp the image was even in low lighting. And again, if you want a little boost to these stats, I highly recommend swapping out the RAM. As you can see, I got better results across the board with my old RAM. If this is something you plan on doing, do some research on what RAM modules will perform better. There’s quite a community out there noticing this and it’s growing.

It’s a little small though, and being on a 17” model really makes it stand out as a missed opportunity. This is yet another area that Lenovo got lazy on, probably due to cost and the fact that the 17” models aren’t popular enough to warrant more customized components. I was pleased with the temps during normal use though. It’s a lot cooler than I expected and it’s mainly because the CPU fan stays at a low speed practically all the time. The constant air circulation does a lot to keep the chassis cool and the CPU at low temps. Fan noise hovers around 32dB, which is fine by me. As you can see from all three performance modes, the CPU stays at some pretty good temperatures. Having temps average at 84C in performance mode isn’t bad at all. And it gets even better in balanced or quiet mode. GPU temps are also well under control.Graphics performance is excellent with 3DMark results that are almost 15 percent faster than the average laptop in our database with the same GeForce RTX 3070 Ti GPU. In fact, it even edges out the RTX 3080 Ti in the Alienware x15 R2. The Legion 5 Pro missed the eight-hour mark in our battery rundown, conking out hours before both the Predator Triton 300 SE and Alienware m15 R5 and nearly an hour before the Razer Blade 15. It easily outlasted the huge Alienware m17 R4, but you aren't likely to lug the Lenovo on the road with much frequency. It’s not a huge deal-breaker, as it only moves my mouse pointer a little every now and then. But it is annoying – it’s not like I have this problem on other laptops. Your mileage may vary depending on the size of your hands though.
