About this deal

None of the Canon 70-200mm f/4.0 L zooms has ever included the tripod collar. That includes the first version (which did not have IS), introduced in 1999. The raison d'etre for these f/4.0 zooms is the same pro quality as the f/2.8 zooms but with a lot less weight & bulk. Photographers that do serious hiking and climbing really appreciate such a lens, especially because they often still need to carry a tripod. The lens isn't designed for macro work, with a minimum close-focusing distance of 1 meter (just over three feet) and a maximum magnification of 0.27x. I use my 80-400 most often and my 150-600 for when I need the "reach". All this said, my 80-400 is just too good and I wouldn't want to give it up. Minimum focus is 3.28 feet (1m), and the maximum reproduction ratio is 1:3.6. This lens doesn’t have the extreme focal length breathing of its bigger sibling. Focusing is internal, as already noted.

Nikon’s own marketing gets it right with this lens: “strikes an ideal balance…” Yes, indeed. Far more so than most Nikon lenses, the 70-200mm f/4G is a very well-rounded, well-behaved, well-performing lens. The colour rendition is the usual for the new Nikkor lenses: high contrast, high saturation, but compared to the 24-70 this 70-200 has more details in the shadows. So there’s a little bit of a “fair weather friend” aspect to this lens. If you’ve got enough light, it’s an excellent performer. If you don’t have much light, you’re going to wish you had the f/2.8 version. As long as Nikon keeps creating great gear, I have no problem paying for it, and when I buy this lens, I'll buy the dedicated tripod collar for it. Call me crazy. may not be utilized, directly or indirectly, to inform, train, or improve any artificial intelligence program or system.

Nikon 70-200mm f/4G VR Review - Photography Life

Measuring 78x179mm and weighing 850g, this is a travel-friendly lens that’s easy to stow and carry, and is comfortable for prolonged periods of handheld shooting. It’s also light enough to not require a tripod mounting ring for shooting with a tripod or monopod, although Nikon offers one as an optional extra. The lens is also compatible with Nikon’s 1.4x, 1.7x and 2.0x teleconverters although, with the last of these, the widest available aperture narrows to f/8. Weighing only 850g, this lens is relatively lightweight and compact, especially when compared to Nikon's f/2.8 70-200mm lens, which weighs almost twice as much. The lens barrel is constructed form high quality plastics and the lens mount is metal, with a rubber gasket to help prevent the ingress of dust and moisture into the camera. Unfortunately the lens itself is not weather sealed though. The lens balances well on the Nikon D700 used for testing and should feel right at home on even Nikon's more compact entry level bodies due to the light weight. Option 2 gives more flexibilty and quality. If you plan to do telephoto at the 400+ range, the 200-500 has better image quality. The 70-200 is light and small enough to be a walk-around lens, and takes a TC1.4 well. Weight: 850 g (30.0 oz.) vs. 1,540 g (3.4 lb.) of the f2.8. The difference of almost 700g is clearly felt and a major benefit over the f2.8. [+] We haven't yet reviewed this lens, but again, it's possible to go with a ƒ/2.8 lens (with image stabilization) for a similar price as the Nikon, so long as you don't need it to have the Nikon brand. However it is just my problem - and I am glad that I could learn something new. There are thousands of translators on the internet to help me.

The VR works perfectly, as every other new Nikkor lens, and the image degradation is virtually absent (when in the firsts VR models was better turn it off with the shorter shutter speeds). One can always forget the VR.Unfortunately, measuring any image stabilization performance is a difficult task. There is no way for me to provide any quantitative data, because it would require a complex setup that involves machines shaking the camera in a certain manner and direction. And trying to do a measurement by hand-holding the lens and reporting on the number of sharp vs blurry shots is never accurate either because there are too many variables involved. Very satisfied. Now if Nikon could just make a cheaper, lighter solid mid range i could put my primes away. potentially allowing you to get sharp pictures at shutter speeds as low as 1/6 sec at 200mm. Although this can't do anything about subject movement, it should greatly expand the usability of the lens in marginal lighting conditions." Unlike a lot of companies, Nikon has never made a 16-35mm f/2.8 even for their DSLRs. They did make an old 17-35mm f/2.8 many years ago. At this point, Nikon has better lenses for street, at least for me, plus the ever sweeter 14-24/2.8 for other uses.
