About this deal

Discover the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and test your power and knowledge with this fantastic Puzzle and Quiz Book. I also think that puzzles are a Platonic ideal of a problem. Life’s problems are often very complicated. There is no one simple answer; there are a bunch of answers. Each is suboptimal and you have to figure out which is the best of the imperfect solutions. But with puzzles, there is that one perfect solution. It is very satisfying. We live in a world of greys and probabilities and puzzles present us with that Platonic ideal where you can say, ‘Okay, it all makes sense. It all works perfectly. It all fits together.’ So that is another reason. They don’t call it a treasure hunt. They call it a ‘puzzle hunt.’ But it is very similar. Going to the MIT Mystery Hunt was one of the adventures in my book. It’s where I met the people who wrote the puzzles for my contest. It’s a crazy annual event. It’s like an ironman triathlon for nerds. It’s 2,000 of the smartest people you can imagine, who come to Boston to the campus of MIT and spend 72 hours solving about 150 of the hardest, most baffling puzzles you can imagine. It’s a team competition and the team that finds the penny on the MIT campus wins. Best of all, this book is 100% recyclable so that you can give your brain a workout in an eco-friendly way!

Try your hand at over 200 challenges from the puzzle masters of Japan. Puzzle types are rated easy to excruciating, and there’s not a sudoku in sight.Book of Skeleton Crosswords Volumes 1-6 "Skeleton crosswords can keep me absorbed for hours, I used to like cryptic crosswords but these are better. ★★★★★

So first on your list is My Best Mathematical and Logic Puzzles by Martin Gardner. The publisher blurb suggests these are puzzles 9- to 12-year-olds can do so, hopefully, most people can manage them. Tell me a bit about this book. I know. You can see all the tragedy but also the triumphs. You can see it all in the history of ciphers. So I’m a big fan. It’s a fun book. For fans of the great Sir Arthur Conan Doyle detective series comes a collection of puzzles inspired by Holmes' most popular cases and adventures. This stylish puzzle book will test your number and problem-solving skills, with over 130 sudoku puzzles ranging from easy to diabolical inside. It is too late in one sense. In another sense, it’s not because you can still play the puzzles online at thepuzzlerbook.com. They are fantastic. You don’t even need to buy the book, though I hope you do. It’s free entertainment because these puzzles are brilliant. They were written by a team of professional puzzle makers led by a man named Greg Pliska. They’re so weird and delightful. They’re puzzles about the history of puzzles, so you’ll learn about that too. This fascinating collection of puzzles has more than 100 puzzles, all focused on our beloved canine companions. Each puzzle is themed in some way related to dogs, from the best breeds for agility training and those most suited to first-time owners, to heroic medal winning dogs and working breeds. But I will say I gained respect for riddles because they can be poetry. It’s not just about solving the puzzle. They can be these extended metaphors that make you see life in a different way. Let me just read you one of my favorites. It’s from The Hobbit by Tolkien and I think it’s a lovely little bit of poetry. Let’s go on to Masquerade by Kit Williams, which is an armchair treasure hunt. This was a big deal, I think.
