What I love most is how this book is a short little music and listening appreciation class. At the end there are little explanations for each movement, information about the composer, and some musical vocabulary linked to the specific musical piece, Carnival of the Animals. The books also include a biography of the composer, a glossary of musical terms and a discussion of the instruments and musical techniques used. Each book retells a famous ballet, opera or program music story, from Mozart to Vivaldi, in a child-friendly way, paired with sound clips of orchestras playing from their musical scores.

The recorded music actually sounds good, like music, not the tinny sounds that often come out of the books with the "press the button for the sound" feature.This book was donated by the publisher for my Stags Read project and will be given to a student in my community. I do not enjoy opera’s but I do find this an enjoyable read with my daughter. She likes all the music in the book and really enjoys the illustrations....
