About this deal

I have the OWC at work. I don’t have any complaints about it, but I’m not sure I’m really taxing it all that heavily. I’m only using it to drive a (relatively low-resolution) display, an ethernet adapter, and a USB port. Every Element Hub workflow will be different from the next, bringing with it the potential for incredibly unique set-ups, only limited by your imagination.

for the Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C port Adapters for the Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C port

USB-A is the USB connector with which you’re probably most familiar. It’s the USB connector that was on the previous MacBooks. (Terms like USB 4, USB 3 and USB 2 refer to the speed at which data travels through the connector.) I really like how Apple is presenting Thunderbolt as “Thunderbolt / USB 4“ on its latest Macs. You see, Thunderbolt 4 finally promises PC/Windows users all the features Thunderbolt 3 has long offered Apple users. Thunderbolt is a joke. I was trying to run two displays off the port on my MBA and there is just no way to do it, unless you get an external video card. The hubs come with HDMI and TB, but you can only use one. It’s an amazingly weak technology, designed mostly to fleece the “prosumer”. As the Element Hub is a Thunderbolt 4/USB4 device, it is compatible with USB-C tablets such as the iPad Pro or Windows tablets. The latest Thunderbolt interface uses a universal USB-C connector to transfer data, output video, and charge devices through the same cable. The OWC Thunderbolt Hub’s Thunderbolt ports use that same USB-C connector to create a multi-connectivity solution for millions of existing and future Thunderbolt and USB-C computers and devices. Plus, the ports are fully USB4 future compatible. When connected to a Thunderbolt 4 host computer the Element Hub is capable of adding a monitor up to 8K resolution, or dual 4K 60Hz monitors in either extended or mirrored modes. Works with Thunderbolt 4, Thunderbolt 3, USB4, and USB host computers and mobile devices. Thunderbolt/Thunderbolt 2 Mac models are supported via USB-A host connection. Thunderbolt/Thunderbolt 2 host connection is not supported.

Thunderbolt to USB and - Macworld Mac and MacBook Ports: Thunderbolt to USB and - Macworld

This one can eat up a chunk of your budget because there are so many different types of display connectors. Be prepared to buy several adapters. Use the Thunderbolt port of this adapter to connect your Mac to a display that uses a Thunderbolt or Thunderbolt 2 cable. For example, you can use this adapter to connect your Mac to an Apple Thunderbolt DisplayorLG Thunderbolt 2 display. Yes, the Element Hub can be daisy-chained to the TS3 Plus, or any dual port Thunderbolt 3, or Thunderbolt 4 device such as the TS3 Plus. You can either have it first or second in the chain. We would recommend to have the TS3 Plus directly connected to the laptop since it provides higher laptop charging. Yes, the Element Hub is the perfect companion for any M2, M2, Pro, M2 Max, M1, M1 Pro, or M1 Max computer. The Thunderbolt ports in the current Mac Studio, 24-inch iMac, Mac mini, MacBook Pro, and MacBook Air work with USB-C devices, which have the same connector shape. If you want to use a USB-C device, you can just plug it into one of the Thunderbolt ports. No adapter is necessary.

However, people online have reported problems with using the Thunderbolt Display or Apple’s LED Cinema Display with Apple’s M1 Macs. As detailed by Macworld, these displays show a line of flashing pixels at the top right of the screen. Apple issued a fix for this in macOS Monterey 12.3, so if you run into this problem, update macOS. DisplayPort and mini DisplayPort MacBook Air 2018 expansion HUB I am in need of a hub that will handle USB-C external SSD, USB-C blu-ray player and MacBook Air charging cable. Does this exist? All hubs I've seen have only 1 or 2 USB-C ports with all sorts of other configurations.

The best Thunderbolt 2 docks for the MacBook Pro - Macworld

If you have an odd-shaped USB flash drive, you might have problems plugging it into the front USB port. The port itself is recessed a bit from the outer aluminum casing, which can get in the way if your USB drive has a built-in connector and a wide case. More recent iPhones and iPads include a USB-C to Lightning cable, and the iPad Pro includes a USB-C charging cable, so you don’t need the adapter for those devices. How to connect the Lightning EarPods If your monitor is Thunderbolt 3 or USB-C it can connect directly to the spare Thunderbolt ports on the Element Hub. The Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) to Thunderbolt 2 Adapterconnects a Macthat has a Thunderbolt 3 port to a device that uses a Thunderboltor Thunderbolt 2 cable. Unlike other Thunderbolt 4 hubs on the market, the Element Hub has a fixed 60W laptop charging function. Whilst other Thunderbolt 4 hubs reduce their laptop charging capabilities down to 30W charging or lower when the hub is fully loaded,This adapter doesn't receive power over Thunderbolt, so you can't charge your Mac by connecting the adapter to an external Thunderbolt display or other device that delivers power over Thunderbolt. Up until this point, hubs have been restricted by their interface’s performance, limiting their potential. The Element Hub, in combination with the power of Thunderbolt 4, has allowed us to create the most ambitious hub on the market. Many printers nowadays have wireless support, so there’s no need for a cable. But maybe you have an older printer, or you find wireless printing unreliable. Most consumer printers have a USB-B port. It’s a squarish connector, much different from USB-A or USB-C.
