About this deal

I cant really tell who the authors audience was.I would make a hypothesis that the audience was primary students and any law enforcement or the dog activists. I say this because the book is about a dog that is forced to leave his owner, and taken to the army and is trained to become this all important dog that helps the army in missions. This book was interesting to me a student so i think its meant for any student. As well as any person who has an interest between wars and dogs.

A heart-warming and heart-wrenching book ... It’s enough to make you want to grab a box of tissues — and the nearest dog." Full of compelling stories about military dogs and the handlers who love them (and are often told not to). ... And the Woman said, 'His name is not Wild Dog any more, but the First Friend, because he will be our friend for always and always and always.” Centuries later as mankind evolved, so too did its sacred kinship with “Man’s Best Friend.” Nowhere is that partnership more vital than on the battlefield engaged in a never-ending conflict of good versus evil as Military Working Dog teams serve on the tip-of-the spear outside the wire; keeping America’s servicemen and women safe from enemy insurgents and the most feared weapon of all, the Improvised Explosive Device. Now, investigative reporter Rebecca Frankel delves into the reclusive and often sensationalized world of Military Working Dogs and their devoted handlers. Enter “War Dogs: Tales of Canine Heroism, History and Love,” a veteran columnist covering the exploits of MWDs since 2010, Frankel now takes the reader on a journey inside the realm of Uncle Sam’s Top Dogs. This is yet another book on dogs and how they are utilized by the military in war situations. It really is quite amazing that dogs can be trained to do incredible, life saving tasks. War Dogs: Tales of Canine Heroism, History, and Love

This is a lovely book but it's also a surprising book. I opened it looking forward to reading a few good stories about the use of dogs in war. But midway through it, the realization hit me that this is something larger than that, and far deeper: it is a meditation on war and humans. It illuminates conflict from the unexpected angle of the allure of war, and the damage it does to both species." A truly wonderful account of ‘man’s best friend’ in combat—and post-combat—missions: an inspirational, moving book that explains the extraordinary nature of the relationship between dogs and their military handlers in war.” War Dogs is a 2014 science fiction novel by Greg Bear, the first in a trilogy chronicling a war between Earth and mysterious alien invaders in the Solar System. Due to my love of military themed books and dogs. The author really gives a nice in depth look into the relationship between the dogs and their handlers. Which I really liked this about this book. The psychological aspect of the handler and the dog's relationship. Honesty, as I was reading this book it was not just the military dogs that I could see having a close relationship but my own two dogs as well. I have always shared a very close and personal relationship with all the dogs that I have owned through out the years. My dogs are not just dogs but really are part of my family and they are my children. I believe that I can talk to dogs and they do understand me. So again I get where the people featured in this book are coming from when they share their stories. Dogs are amazing. There were a few times where I did get very emotionally attached to the stories as if I had known these dogs all my life. L'amour est un oiseau rebelle" (by Georges Bizet) sung by Maria Callas and the Orchestre national de France Full of information about the nature, history, and training of military service canines, War Dogs sometimes reads like an adventure and sometimes reads like a novel that focuses on relationships and affection (here between a soldier and a dog). It is a very satisfying and often emotional read.”—Stanley Coren, author of The Wisdom of Dogs The bond that develops over time during training and ultimate deployment in action is remarkable. Rebecca Frankel has put together a collection of war dog stories that is memorable and thoughtful. Readers will no doubt take pause to reflect as each story is unique. However, a common thread exists throughout the book that ties these tales together. Each handler and his dog have an unbreakable bond. Each is devoted to the other with an unbreakable trust and love. So much so that they will often give their life for each other....dog for man and man for dog.
