About this deal

This passage allows us to see Bathsheba taking a risky step to support her child and his future. She pressed David to keep his word, even though another son of David’s had underhandedly claimed the title of kingship. Ultimately, God used Bathsheba’s bravery for His plan. David crowned Solomon king, and the rest is history. David ( AB) burned with anger ( AC) against the man ( AD) and said to Nathan, “As surely as the Lord lives, ( AE) the man who did this must die! 6 He must pay for that lamb four times over, ( AF) because he did such a thing and had no pity.” David noticed that his attendants were whispering among themselves, and he realized the child was dead. “Is the child dead?” he asked. Several scholars see Bathsheba as the granddaughter of Ahithophel, [10] as do passages in the Talmud. [11] The argument is that she is called the daughter of Eliam in 2 Sam. 11:3, and 2 Sam 23:34 mentions an Eliam, the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite, one of David's " thirty". The assumption is then that these two Eliams are the same person.

Roedd Bathseba yn wraig i Ureias* yr Hethiad ac yn ddiweddarach i Dafydd Frenin, yn ôl yr Hen Destament. Mae hi'n fwyaf adnabyddus am y naratif Beiblaidd lle gwysiwyd hi gan y Brenin Dafydd, a oedd wedi ei gweld yn ymolchi ac yn ei chwenychu hi. Hi oedd mam Solomon, a olynodd Dafydd yn frenin. Roedd hi hefyd yn un o hynafiaid yr Iesu [1] Ystyr ei henw yw merch y llw. [2]

The first decision to impact Bathsheba, which led to the terrible and deadly embroilment of sin, came from King David. He chose to remain home when kings typically go to war. By refusing to be present where duty called him, his eyes fell on a view that took him straight to sin’s door. The Second Book of Samuel ( 11:2-4) gives the account of King David who saw a woman bathing from his palace roof. When he asked after her, he was told that she was Bathsheba, daughter of Eliam and wife of Uriah the Hittite. David had his messengers retrieve her, and after they slept together she became pregnant with his child. David was able to marry Bathsheba by sending Uriah into battle where he was killed. [1] One of the advantages of paying very close attention to the details in the Bible, especially chronological and genealogical details, is that they can shed light on situations that don’t seem to make much sense apart from them. One such situation is that of Bathsheba.

Now, at the time of the revolt, Ahithophel was an old man, but still able to serve as an advisor to Absalom (2 Samuel 15:12, etc.). Contrast Barzillai the Gileadite, who at the age of 80 felt he was too old to serve (19:35). Let us make Ahithophel roughly 74 years of age at this time. Nowhere does the text tell us why Ahithophel supported Absalom, but we can easily guess that he was alienated over David’s treatment of his granddaughter and her husband. Along with Eve, Bathsheba was almost the only female whose nude depiction could easily and regularly be justified in Christian art, and she is therefore an important figure in the development of the nude in medieval art. Though sometimes shown clothed at other points in her story, the most common depiction, in both medieval and later art, was Bathsheba at her Bath, the formal name for the subject in art showing Bathsheba bathing, watched by King David. This could be shown with various degrees of nudity, depending on the pose and the placing of clothes or towels. One of the most common placements in the 15th century, perhaps surprisingly, was in miniatures illustrating a book of hours, a personal prayer book, that overtook the psalter as the most popular devotional book for laypeople. This was especially the case in France. [36]

David had her brought to the palace to sleep with her because he’d been watching her bathe and saw she was “very beautiful” ( 2 Samuel 11:2). I think that, while she might be innocent about relationships and love matters, Bathsheba knows how to use her charms to get what she wants and maybe she does this unconsciously. During the whole movie, she holds Oak and Boldwood in her hand, she knows this and for a time she seems like she is enjoying it; both of them will do anything for her and she does not even have to ask. Perhaps, after meeting officer Troy she realizes that men can be manipulated to either get what one wants or simply to not get …show more content… Bathsheba was the daughter of Eliam ( 2 Samuel 11:3, Ammiel in 1 Chronicles 3:5). [3] An Eliam is mentioned in 2 Samuel 23:34 as the son of Ahithophel, who is described as the Gilonite. Bathsheba was the wife of Uriah the Hittite. Not only did Bathsheba feel the sting of adultery – some even speculate it was a forced relation – but she also found herself impacted by the subsequent death of her husband. Sin opened the door for havoc in the woman’s life. Lean into God for forgiveness, comfort, and direction. You can lean into God’s calling for your life and let him use your circumstances to create good. If you have perpetrated crimes or taken advantage of others, you can confess your sins and change your habits. You can choose not to excuse or normalize your behavior. ( 1 John 1:9-10)
