Nb. Delta-E (ΔE) is the measurement of the difference between the expected or requested colour, and the actual colour measured by the calibration device. The lower this number, the better. Paper Color Sync is a neat idea, and only available on the SW271C and its bigger sibling, the SW321C. It’s sort of like hardware calibration for soft proofing your prints: using a companion app, you can select your photo’s color gamut, your printer, and your photo paper, and Paper Color Sync will adjust the colors of the display at the monitor level so that you get the most accurate on-screen preview of the final printed image while you edit. BenQ AQCOLOR technology delivers 'Accurate Reproduction.' This translates to the display of color precisely as it is intended to appear. Led by a color expert, the BenQ team took part in the ICC* and ISO** to establish color-related standards and implementation guidelines. Covering 99% Adobe RGB, 90% P3 and 100% sRGB color spaces, with Delta E ≤ 2 and BenQ ICCsync, SW271C offers out-of-the-box and easy-to-reach color accuracy. The 16-bit 3D lookup table (LUT) improves color blending for precise reproduction. The BenQ SW271 impresses with its business style design and thin and flat bezel around the top and sides of the screen. There is a blue ring for putting the cables through. A weight of 16.4kg is quite heavy, although the stand has no problem supporting the weight, whilst offering ease of adjustment for height, tilt and orientation. The power light and on/off button isn't too bright a white. The monitor can swivel 45 degrees left and right, which isn't much when compared to an EIZO ColorEdge monitor, and if you regularly want to show others what's on your screen then this may feel limiting. The screen tilts down -5 degrees and up 20 degrees, and you can move it up 150-160mm.

The SW271C's wide gamut support, UHD resolution, and accurate color reproduction make it a top choice for photography professionals. I ask because I’ve decided to upgrade from a 2014 27″ iMac to a 2018 mac mini and a 27″ monitor suitable for photo editing. I’ve narrowed the choice to the BenQ SW271 or NEC PA 271Q. My key criteria are suitability for advanced photo editing – color accuracy and screen image resolution. Night & day when talking about color uniformity. That SW271 is an useless unit regarding color uniformity. Also calibration software is better (but some PA271Q units exhibit some kind of calibration problem so right now CS/CG are safer)

Thank you for your time, extraordinary knowledge and opinions. What you recommend will greatly influence my final decision on a monitor. FYI, for the most part, I use PS and LrC to edit in Windows 10. Earlier last year I had a chance to test the BenQ SW320 monitor, which turned out to be a solid choice for my photography needs. I was able to calibrate the display using both BenQ’s native Palette Master Element software and DisplayCAL, which provided me with great results at the end (you can see my calibration results in my detailed BenQ SW320 Review). I wanted to explore BenQ’s product line even further and this time I will be taking a closer look at the smaller 27″ version of the monitor, the SW271. Quite a few things have changed since last time I looked at BenQ monitors and with the most recent updates to calibration software, it seemed like I could get even more out of these wide gamut displays. Let’s take a look at what I was able to achieve with the BenQ SW271 in my environment. One of the toughest tests for any monitor is how well a monitor can display white. So we've taken a photo of the screen displaying 100% white, with white balance on the camera set using the central point of the monitor. The monitor has a slight magenta / pink hue on the right-hand side of the monitor and a very slight green cast on the left-hand side of the monitor.

However, greys are good, with them looking grey, with minimal tint, unless you've moved the image to the left or right of the screen. We found the best colour results were from using a calibration device in combination with the Palette Master Element software, which meant the software was able to write the calibration results to the monitor's LUT. Overall, it looks like the uniformity results for the SW271 looks pretty decent, especially when compared to the BenQ SW320 that demonstrated fairly poor uniformity, particularly in the corners. Still, I did not expect to see a sharp drop in uniformity right outside the center zone – as you can see, the right side of the center area looks quite a bit different. The resolution of 3840x2160‎ provides plenty of working space, while text is comfortable to read with Windows font set to 125%, although you may want to increase the font size further.

SW271C|27-inch 4K AdobeRGB USB-C Photographer Monitor - BenQ

I’ve been reading your review on the BenQ SW271 – even though it seems like a good monitor but I’m not a big fan of colour/brightness uniformity issues as it makes editing images harder. What is the current monitor you use? What would you recommend for the same price as the BenQ SW271?Adobe RGB, B+W, Calibration 1, Calibration 2, Calibration 3, Custom, DCI-P3, DICOM, Display P3, HDR, M-Book, Paper Color Sync, Rec.709, sRGB When you combine these with the features that were already great on the original SW271, the Pros list gets pretty long:

The SW271 is supplied with modular shade which is invaluable when working in brighter situations. (Image credit: BenQ) The BenQ SW271 is one of the latest photographic monitors from BenQ, and not only features a 4K (3840x2160) resolution, and Adobe RGB, but also features HDR and 10bit colour. The last monitor we reviewed from BenQ was the SW320, a 4K 31.5inch screen.Interactive Displays Pantone Validated Smart Signage Series 4K Smart Signage Series BenQ Board Accessories Smart Display Accessories Wireless Presentation Keep in mind that this is what you normally get with most budget options on the market. Unless you are ready to move up to NEC and Eizo monitors that offer good overall uniformity and uniformity compensation features, most other monitors are going to struggle in this department. Verifying Factory Calibration The main performance claims that BenQ makes with the SW271C is that it can deliver 10-bit color with 99% coverage of AdobeRGB and 90% coverage of DCI-P3 at a Delta E of 2 or less. The company also claims that the display can be used to edit HDR content. This is all technically true, but there are some caveats. Bit Depth and Brightness Measuring the colour difference (Delta-E again), with the i1 Display Pro, the average was 0.86, maximum 1.73, very good results.
