About this deal

For those looking for piano and a whole lot more besides, Yamaha has recently updated its offering with the PSR-EW425 and PSR-E473 promising “pro-quality sound for the first time” at their price points. One more thing that might be useful for people who live in shared spaces is that you can very easily adjust the volume of the DDP-80 digital piano. If you play an acoustic piano, it’s as loud as it is, and if you play notes softer, it changes the nature of the music. So this is undoubtedly an advantage of a digital piano over other alternatives. If you want to go really silent, you just use headphones instead, and nobody but you will hear you play. This might also help learners who might feel shy about having other people hear any mistakes. To all of you, I want to say: Just keep practicing. Everybody has to start somewhere, and nobody is born a master piano player. The features of the Donner DDP-80 digital piano We’re fully onboard with what Donner has tried to do with the look of the DDP-80, though, and it’s nice to have a flat surface on the top to write notes or put your coffee down on. Just make sure you use a coaster, yeah? GOOD. ~ Great value for money. Authentic piano keyboard feel. Sounds good even on the small speakers. So, when I came across the Donner DDP-80 Plus with its gorgeous wooden exterior and limited specifications list, I was definitely intrigued. I wanted to see if this could be the piano that could fill a niche gap in the market.

Sound Particles, the maker of the world's first spatial audio synthesizer, on SkyDust 3D: "The future is spatial" Donner DDP-80 digital piano review An affordable digital piano that looks nicer than many expensive models? This deserves a closer look... Ok so why am I excited about reviewing the Donner DDP-80 and what makes it so unique? Well, with the DDP-80, Donner has created a digital piano that has a very simple feature set that actually has more in common with acoustic pianos, but then includes a couple of the very basic but . . . important advantages of a digital piano. As a result, the DDP-80 will strongly appeal to people who are ONLY interested in playing piano, without ANY bells, whistles or extra features. And it will even appeal to some people who are actually considering an acoustic piano, but for cost, size, portability and (or) noise level restrictions, they want an alternative to an acoustic piano. Donner DDP-80 Assembly / Unboxing The low volume doesn’t go very low. And I’ve had once instance when the piano just stopped making noise. I unplugged and replugged and it worked fine again. Hopefully not a sign of unreliable sound and just a glitch! Do the legs/does the stand come attached? I want to know if the legs can be screwed off and I can store it without the legs when its not in use.

If you are a piano purist that is only concerned with playing piano without all the bells and whistles, and you are looking for a an attractive furniture style piano with a good piano sound, decent action and great speakers, then I think the Donner DDP-80 is a great option. It’s almost like a basic acoustic piano with the most important advantages of a digital. It would be easy to criticise the DDP-80 for only having one sound, but we suspect that most of the people who are interested in buying a design-led piano like this won’t really care if they don’t have Rhodes, organ and vibes presets - much as they wouldn’t worry about it if they bought an acoustic piano. New arrival Donner's DDP-80 is all about the looks. Rather than shirk on bulk and play the portability card, the Donner strikes a great balance of being 'furniture' without taking over the room. With a 1268mm-wide full-size keyboard casing it'll fit in your alcoves perfectly.

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Lukid: “Dance music can be a bit snobbish about melody - but for me, the marriage of rhythmic and melodic elements is where the magic happens” Donner's choice to go with just the 1 piano sound and very minimal controls makes it clear who their target audience is. Casio Smart Scaled Hammer Action (PX-S Privia series): The DDP-80 is noticeably heavier than the PX-S series; while the Casio action is actually my personal favorite, it is quite light – I think I can safely say the DDP-80 action would be a closer approximation of an acoustic piano action than the Casio USB to host port for connecting to a device like an iPad to transmit MIDI data to apps or software. This port does only send MIDI data (it would have been very cool if Donner could have done what Yamaha does on almost all their products, and that is include AUDIO in this port; you can’t have everything though). Very much the perfect partner (read rival) to the P-45 above, the Casio CDP-S110 is a near feature identical, identically priced take on the exact same market. It too features 10 sounds, all the usual headphone, USB and pedal ports and a full-size 88-note weighted keybed.
